GM Ignition Recall Extended to All HHR's 2006-2011 UPDATED!!!
I went to my Chevy dealer and they replaced the ignition switch and two new keys. It took less than one hour. The down side is the new keys don't fit the door lock. The other thing is that the new keys don't work the ignition switch easily. I now need to "fiddle" to get the ignition key to turn. The dealer is "looking" into why the new keys don't fit the door lock. The VIN # gave them the correct key cut.
I was ordering a replacement key fob, as one no longer worked. They will call me when the new fob comes in. Then they may determine what is up with the keys and door compatibility.

Read the Camaro recall again. IT IS THE KEY NOT THE CYLINDER/SWITCH.
Oh, and Toyota added a few million more to their recalls. Seems they have been trying to burn their customers alive, if they survived the cause of the airbag deployment.

The latest "simple" recall is so GM can give the owners an insert to narrow up the key ring hole in the key.
On the HHR's, cobalts etc. some owners are getting new keys for the same reason. To narrow up the key ring hole.
Some of the newer model GM vehicles came new with keys with the small hole. Mine did.
we tried to duplicate the problem on my wifes 2010 Camaro and there is no way she could ever bump it. She will not take it back in unless they come and get it. She absolutely loves her Camaro. I have never had the problem with my 09 HHR but eventually may take it in once there is enough parts and I do not have to leave it.
I was back at the dealer to get a replacement key fob ($96.49 made in China), get it reprogrammed $39.95 and to find out why the new keys didn't work in the door lock. The tech said that door lock (which the key was rarely used) was worn to the point that the new key would not work.
So they needed to find a new door lock cylinder ($57.32 made in Mexico) and $143.95 labor to install new door lock.
You can't avoid shop supplies for $20.23, Unsure what shop supplies are needed unless I was buying a new wrench for the shop. Then sales tax $21.48.
Well the new key fob works and the new keys work in the door lock.

So......I had the ignition recall work done on my car last week (all three for the switch, cylinder and new keys). Picked up the car Thursday and now I'm having a problem with the remote start (sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - same with both fobs). Everything else on both fobs works fine except for the remote start. I have had the car for a year and never had a problem. My first thought was it needs new batteries, so I replaced both batteries and still the same problem. Called the dealer, told them the problem and they think that there could have been a problem when they flashed the computer. So, Monday morning I have an appointment to reflash the computer and see if that fixes it. Not upset or angry, just a little hiccup, could have been a small power surge at the time of the flash, who knows but thought I'd post it in case anyone else had the same problem
