I'm glad I took that week off. Am I supposed to understand that?

There is no programming that needs to be done to the keys. The keys have no resistor in them like some other GM keys.

The main difference between the old keys and the new keys is the "Size" of the hole where a key ring would fit. The old key had a larger hole which would accommodate a heavier ring or multiple rings. The new key has a very small circular hole. This was done to discourage folks from hanging many key rings from the one ignition key.

The new keys are cut according to the VIN of the vehicle. This is why the new keys will continue to operate the door locks. If the new keys do not work effortlessly and flawlessly in the new ignition lock cylinder AND the door locks, one should return to the dealership immediately for them to correct the problem.

Hope this helps to clear up some misconceptions about this recall.

What ? Don't know where you got this from. My HHR has programmable keys, as I believe they all do.
From the owners manual: The key has a transponder in the key head that matches
a decoder in the vehicle’s steering column.

Plus, the owners manual has a whole section on how to program additional keys to your car.

As long as you don't also add any in the process. Technically, you are right, however, that the keys have no resistor.....

My apologies about the transponder located in the key. I was not aware of this. Thanks for clearing this up for ME!

I have noticed that the cut of the key is sometimes very suspect and prevents folks from locking or unlocking their doors manually.

The dealership I frequent only allows ONE person to cut the keys. He is in the Parts Department.

In 45 pages, you don't think that has been covered?

That sentence applies to all of the questions from the first page on, not to any specific post.

I love it when "the internets" publishes misconceptions to clear up misconceptions in threads that start out with the actual facts in the very first post.

Again, not pointing my sausage like finger at anyone in particular, there are 45 pages of it.

If I may interject, I don't believe it was the the size of the hole - it was the shape. The old hole was a slot - an elongated hole which would allow a set of keys to slide to one side putting more pressure on that side. The new key is a circular hole and a key ring will stay put.

I stopped into my dealership 7 weeks ago and they said they needed to order the parts and they would notify me when they arrive... However that same dealership has sent me 3 notices via mail since i've been in that there's a recall on my car.. I called the other day and they were snooty that I called for an update on the part and I was reassured they will notify me when it comes in....
UPDATE:

After stopping by my local dealership back in MAY I finally had enough and contacted GM corporate office, that was about 3 weeks ago... Amazingly after that 1 phone call, my local dealership contacted me to say the part was in... coincidence..? Doubt it... But now my dealership tells me that they are soooo busy, I have to wait another month to have it put in....
Given what I've had to go through, not only with this, but the dreaded front end clunking (swaybar bushings) now my engine warning light picks and chooses when it wants to light up (no codes).... I think this is my last Chevy and I've owned 7 in my life time.. Ok, off my soap box...

It must be about money. Mine was also a lengthy ordeal trying to get the parts ordered and in stock by my dealer. GM must not be paying the dealerships enough to give it the priority it deserves.
