GM now uses multiple vendors who in turn use multiple vendors for component parts. Part numbers don't really tell the consumer anything.

Could be a resistor in the assembly from one resistor maker was not up to the job. There are thousands of resistor factories. Or, a diode etc.

Specifications only go so far. Sometimes suppliers lie about their QC. Sometimes the QC is too wide a range between "good" & "fail". Sometimes the supplier lets too many low end of the scale parts get by.

I have absolutely NO direct knowledge about the key cylinders or the PS motors. Nor do I have ANY link to GM, other than paying my taxes. I'm just saying knee-jerk responses are irresponsible.

This ignition thing seems to be really the key suppliers problem. I have noticed that replacement keys and OE keys for my 2008 and 2011 HHRs had the small ring hole in them. The original TSB fix was an insert into the oblong hole in the key to make it a small round hole approximately 1/8". Maybe everybody is blaming the wrong bit?

I will bring it in but it seems funny to me because it was fixed years ago. I wonder of GM even has record of this.

Yours being an 06, was it the ignition switch or the shifter assembly that was replaced years ago? They replaced the shifter assembly on our 06 under warranty because it was the cause of not being able to remove the key from the ignition. This recall addresses a different problem.

GM stopped using the key insert as according to a GM rep on a news interview, GM was not convinced that fixed all the problems. Probably part of why there is now a recall.
