I sure would hope that they wouldn't! Especially with all the law suits they already have!

Well, fudge it all. Our car had issues with the ignition lock again. This time it wouldn't allow my wife to actually turn the car on. It was just plain locked up. I'm not entirely convinced the shifter is to blame since I've not had the issue repeat since I started the thread but the thing not allowing her to start the car at all in a Walmart parking lot kinda chaps. It figures it would act up on the weekend when the dealership isn't open.

Did you jiggle the steering wheel? That will usually unlock the pawl that locks The key cylinder.

That causes many red faces.

This is my issue as reported in another thread. If the key sticking is related to being in Park and the key only turns as far as Accessory AND the key cannot be removed.....there is a 15 year Customer Satisfaction repair advisory. But the dealer will need to check your VIN first.

Just thought I would repeat what was mentioned in the first thread.

Oh and regarding the video.... It basically is telling you basically that the repair is basically critical or you will basically get stuck some place with basically an immobile vehicle.

My car goes in this Tuesday for this repair.

Her key would go into the cylinder but wouldn't turn to acc or on position. LoL Unfortunately for her, I couldn't get where she was so I was trying to help over texting on a phone. She did manage to get it going and got home. After talking with her some more about it she had said the steering wheel itself was locked solid with no play in it from what I understood. She told me she prayed for it, hehehe, and then the steering wheel had a little slack and she could turn the key. While I won't say that fixed it apparently whatever it was worked itself out.

That's called "jiggling the steering wheel". There is not supposed to be much play in it when the car is parked. It is an anti-theft feature on all cars since the 70's anyway, many people never notice it until they park with the wheel turned just so.

Hi all! So, my key just started getting stuck in park this week. I called my local dealership and they said my car has already been repaired for this issue. (I bought it used in July, it's an 06) They said it would be 102 bucks just to diagnose the problem. Is this the norm?

I really have a big distrust of dealerships. Would anyone have advice for me on how to best deal with them? Thanks so much!

Have you read my post #44 above. And is this exactly the problem you are encountering?

If the dealer is referencing the original ignition RECALL, the activity I mentioned above is a separate issue. Notice my wording of a 15 year Customer Satisfaction repair advisory.

Thank you Snoopy! That sounds exactly like my issue. Is it normal to have to pay the dealer to diagnose the problem though?

Some do and some don't. But in my opinion and in this instance, if you are experiencing EVERYTHING THAT I OUTLINED, it is a separate issue and should be repaired without charge.

This special Customer Satisfaction repair that I am speaking of should be attached to your VIN and the dealer should be able to see it on the GM vehicle information system......and NO CHARGE.
