'09 HHR SS 5 speed brake problem
I have an '09 SS 5 speed. During my test drive (the car had 3 miles on it), a message "SVC BRAKE SYSTEM" came up on the DIC. I showed the salesperson and he said he would have it taken care of. I bought the car the same day and drove it home. The brakes felt completely normal and the message would come on within about 1 mile of driving. If you hit the arrow button on the wheel, the message would go away and not come back on until you did a restart. Took it back to the dealer to get it looked at and they pretty much thought (as did I) that it would be a quickie reset of some sort. After waiting for over 2 hours, the tech came out and said that the vacuum sensor was in fact good, but the wiring between the sensor and brake computer was showing open. Due to time restraints, I took the car anyway and made an appointment to go back this past Monday. They had to keep the car overnight to find this problem. Turns out, it was a bad crimp in the wiring harness from the factory! The tech said that GM's mx hotline had not heard of any issues with the 5 speed. I was thinking that I may have had the first manual tranny with the dreaded vacuum issue and would require the aux booster pump. Since fixed, no problems at all with the brake system. I just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else with a 5 speed is having a similar issue. I may have had the only "fluke" problem with this, but it was a factory issue and there may be more out there. Beyond that............this car FREAKIN ROCKS!!!!!!
I spoke too soon. The original SVC BRAKE SYSTEM message is gone, but yesterday it got a SERVICE TCS and the anti lock brake sign came on. The traction control shut itself down as well. I called and took it back to the dealer immediately. I am still waiting on the verdict. I'm starting to think........LEMON LAW. 3rd time back to the shop in 1300 miles.
