2.0 to 2.4?

so im new to the hhrs i just picked up a 08 ss. it had the p0013 code, i looked up the code and figured no big deal
i can change the vvts, so i got new ones, went to put them in and pulled the old ones out and yep, you guessed it they were covered in aluminum shavings.
so i took the oil filter out and yep there too. i really didnt want to pull the motor out, but i think thats the only way to get all that crap out of it.
one of my ???s is if i have to pull it can i put a 2.4 in it and bolt all the stuff from the 2.0? will it work? is it a good idea? again its all new to me.

I don’t think this is good.
I am not an expert and I will not be able to list specific inconsistencies, but they will definitely be. There are real gurus on this forum - they will have their say.
In any case, you will need new communications and wires. You will need new brains and possibly new fuse boxes. The transmission may not match. The CC radiator is different - that means different hoses.
What other nasty things will come out after the re-equipment, only the devil knows.

The shavings are indicating the timing chain is stretched, and the 2.0 to 2.4 isn’t a good idea, the bottom end of the 2.4 isn’t as strong to endure the turbo. That and the 2.4 head doesn’t have the HPFP

(1) If you do that and you won't need to change engines
(2) No. Well possible but tons of mods would be needed and the 2.4 block isn't built to handle the extra hp.
(3) Possible but why ?
(4) No

There are Turbo and SuperCharger kits for the 2.4 and 2.2. I think there is a 2.4 turbo version, the LAF engine maybe?

It has been done, by people who know what they are doing. Not recommended as a first time experiment.

I thought about a 2.4 with DI out of an Equinox but the turbo stuff and piping, then the exhaust and intake, the fuel mapping, yikes, might just as well drop in an LDK from ZZP, when they become available again.

Agree with Don. The 2.4L is stronger that you guys are giving it credit for. Many here & elsewhere souped up the 2.4 by SC or TC.
Everything in the bottom end is forged.

But putting it in an SS would need crazy amount of changes. To wiring & etc, etc, & etc.
