2008 HHR SS 130,000KM (81,000 miles) and still Going

Whats the highest mileage SS around?

I am debating on trading in my 08 HHR SS (5spd LSD no brembo), lease is up but I still love the car.

Had a stage 1 kit on it since summer of 2009 and I have had 0 issues (besides bushing squeaks, some loose tie rods and some rust blistering on the inside of the doors). I have winter driven it, what can I say Ontario winters can be brutal.

Looking at the market, there's nothing equivalent out there. My buyouts $9600.

My only concern is the motor popping at some point. Gas is starting to hurt a bit too, we're up to $1.52 a liter her for premium and it costs me around $78 to fill it. My mileage is high, ~120km a day.

What do you guys figure? I'm probably due for a clutch sometime soon, getting vibrations in reverse but its not slipping.

I had to read this twice first time I said 130,000 miles
But at 81,000 miles If It was me I would be buying it for $9,600.00.
Just my opinion

Is that 122000 miles or km?

The GM Stage 1 is a treat, prob similar to the HPTuners but a little more gentle. I only see 140kpa from 4500-6500 rpm, 120kpa from 3000-4500.

I did a before test on a dyno when new and it was DAMN close to what stock HP numbers were quoted as even after drivetrain loss.

I've always been curious to see if the stage 1 brings the numbers up to the levels quoted (290,315).

122,000 miles. I still need to do some fine tuning as its a beast trying to drive it normally, its trying to make full boost whenever possible.

That was done in either 3rd or 4th gear if I remember correctly.

And yes it was a manual, threw a ESC warning light on the dash while on the dyno too. Didn't like that the front wheels were moving and the backs weren't.

It was also interesting that we had a MazdaSpeed 3 there that day, he only got 1 good run till heatsoak caused it to kack it was really odd (Top mount intercooler was probably to blame). It showed way under the proposed stock numbers.

You have to ask yourself this question, where are you going to find a car for the same price that offers the storage and fun of the SS?

The Speed3 is a pretty good car, but it gets worse gas mileage, and has 43cu ft. of storage space vs. the HHR's 63cu Ft. The VW GTi is ok, with 43cu ft. of storage but it's FAR slower in stock trim, gets similar mileage, and is not super reliable.

Unless you wanna slip into a much slower car to get better fuel economy, your best bet is to hold onto the HHR and see what Chevy comes up with in the next few years.

Good luck with your choice!

Don't forget with HPT you can tune to your hearts delight. Recently brought it to the dealer to have the lower TMAP looked at so I re-flashed to the "Stage 1" tune. Immediately though was "And I thought this was fast!?!" BIG difference with HPT! It's much quicker now and still averaging 28 mpg. Nice!
