2008 HHR SS Rear Shocks

Well, it seems nobody I can find has rear shocks for the SS. All parts stores in my area, AutoZone, O'Reillys, Advance Auto, etc. seem to be 'out of stock' on anything. KYB doesn't show them any longer and Bilstein shows generic shocks by specs (length, etc.). Were the rear shocks special for the SS? The only ones Rockauto shows are SACHS at $102 a pair. The Monroe website shows 3 part numbers, #5779, #33183, and #210106 with various applications such as "HHR, LS," "HHR,LT PANEL," or "HHR LS PANEL." Advance Auto does show multiple Monroe units that, naturally, don't match up with the Monroe website. I don't drive my car hard and probably less than 3500 miles a year unless I take a1000 roundtrip somewhere - just looking for a good replacement after 17 years of use. Recommendations?

Yeah, SS suspension parts are different than the other HHRs. The original GM part for the SS was discontinued. However, I found an AC Delco shock that supposedly fits the SS, at Summit Racing, $61 each.

ACDelco GM Genuine Parts Shocks and Struts 15780243

Part Number ADO-560-546

Seems like it would work. Good luck.

What’s wrong with the Sachs shocks from RA ? $51 a piece is reasonable.

Yes, Sachs makes decent shocks, and I would use them, if they're actually for the SS. I was just suggesting another source.

My comment was for Okie SS.

Matz. Your suggestion was a good alternate.

Got it, thanks.

I just took a look at RA and the Sachs rear shocks that came up for me are not for the SS. In fact, none of the shocks listed are for the SS. Hmmm.

I didn't even think of looking at Summit (or Jegs) for them. Thanks for the lead. I'm just curious, I know the SS suspension setup (FE3) is different in scope, but in physical length/mounting/etc. are they the same as any other HHR - like the LT/LS/Panel? IN other words, if they were laid side=by-side is there a physical difference?

SS is FE5. Not FE3.
