the only thing I can guess is that it's a number's game.
Reduce the power on the stock HHR SS with auto trans, and they will have less problems to fix under warranty.

I would have to assume that they have spent more time on this kit and have limited or better controled the torque at the shift points better. The computers are great at contrlong this.

I know my auto tranny in 04 SC GP has a lot of torque managment at the shift points to help the transaxle live.

Either way this tune kit is a must have for any automatic SS owner. you net gains in 1-2 gears alone form 235-290HP is worth every dollar of this kit.

It is probably more of a marketing thing.
They may have ASSUMED that only true enthusiasts would by the manual and people who weren't going to push it to the limit would buy the auto. The de-tuned version would be less of a legal and warranty liability.

May also be why LS is not available in the auto.

I am sure that the stage kit was always in the back of their mind for those who wanted all of the performance in the auto....

That's just my guess.

Markey may be on to something there..The kit DID come out shorty after the SS did...and, seeing how the car appealed to the , how do I say this correctly, the milage minders crowd, you know, church goers,,those who wanted to downsize and still have some versatility, kids grown and gone types.. go shopping with the grandkids..well,US! And those not realising the power potential of this car would get in trouble mighty quick, and probably shy away from it and who knows what else, (Oh my! This has way too much power it scares me!)So,knowing all this they release the kit knowing that only the true gearheads will buy it thus saving themselves problems..too far fetched?

So what is so different from the 2008 that we have to wait for the 2009 Stage?

Emission Certification - By Law the Certification of aftermarket kits can not begin until production have begun.

Calibration and Engine software are new

good points to ponder... never thought about the automatic "ppl" being a different type of buyer...
we may never know why they detuned the automatic...
