5 Speed guys I have a favor/ question for ya.

I had my Trans replaced about 4k miles ago, and it seems like the LSD has quit working. So I jacked up my car and spun the drivers side front tire forward and the pass side went the opposite way.

I thought if a car had LSD that both tires should rotate the same direction.

That car also has a lot of torque steer now and is acting like a non LSD FWD car.

If some would could jack up their car and see if both tires spin in the same direction for me.

My car is a 08 SS 5 speed w/ factory LSD with only 10k miles

I can't do it in this weather, but every other vehicle I have had with LSD has both the tires turning in the SAME direction, and opposite directions with an open diff. I think you have an open diff.

The trans that was installed is not LSD. I am pretty sure that trans & diff. are one unit

That's what I thought so I checked the P/N on the transmission and it IS the LSD trans P/N.

So either the LSD failed or Chevy didn't label the trans properly

Just had mine up in the air this morning changing the trans fluid. They definitely rotate the same direction just like any posi/LSD. BTW it is a gear type LS, not clutch pack like the positraction units. They should have done the replacement based on your VIN, which means they needed to intentionally override the correct part number(s) to put in a non LS transaxle, or I guess you said it stopped working, odd?

Interesting. I had assumed it used some kind of electronically activated clutch or viscous coupling. I'll have to look up some diagrams on gear operated LSDs.

vette caught me off guard? changed your tranny oil. thought it was a sealed system

A clutch or cone type LSD will rotate both tires in the same direction. A gear type, such as an Eaton TrueTrack will not. I believe the LSD in the SS is a variation of a gear type. I actually prefer them to clutch LSDs as they don't require fussy friction modifiers or periodic replacement of friction surfaces and have no parasitic drag when cornering.

Drain hot, fill to lower level of fill plug (with vehicle perfectly level). Also see https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/hhr-ss-45/ss-5-speed-gear-lube-change-19592/#post331213

Anyway I could out a LSD on what I believe is a non-LSD HHR? I currently get marginally better traction than a 1976 Camaro. Marginally.
