Can someone answer this for me?

My HHR SS was supposed to arrive this week. Dealer said the shipment "terminated" on 4-18-08. I had not received a phone call from the dealer but was out of town. While I was gone I got on my dealer's website and found my SS in their new vehicle inventory. The VIN number matched the one I had been given and there was a dealer stock number. I telephoned my salesman and he said the vehicle had not arrived yet.

How does the vehicle inventory system on a dealer's website work? Is that information entered in by the individual dealer? Or is it fed to them from some sort of GM inventory management system?

I would venture to guess that it's entered by the dealership. You might PM ChevyMgr and bring his attention to this thread or ask him what he knows. He's a great source of information.

Ask him where it terminated.

I special ordered my HHR. After it was finished being manufactured it was issued a VIN#. The dealer emailed my VIN when the order was completed at the factory. This VIN number then went into the dealers inventory. Then it took a couple of weeks for it to be delivered by train.
I had emailed my dealer a couple of times after I saw it in their inventory online to be sure they weren't going to miss my HHR and sell it to someone else!

actually, this guy got to it first and had it for a snack. That's why no one can find it. :rof:

I handle quite a bit of freight logistics, though mostly containerized ocean freight from Asia to West Coast destinations. I'm totally guessing here, as I've never handled moving vehicles from Mexico to KS, but I would guess your new baby is at a train depot somewhere getting loaded on a truck for transport to your dealership. I've heard rail unload times can be unpredictable, as unloading time varies greatly depending on the order and quantity of rail cars being separated from the trains. Then you've got the logistics of getting all of the vehicles into the same place so they can all be loaded onto the same truck which will carry them to the dealerships. Then the dealership will have to sort through all they receive and detail many of them before they can release yours. Maybe you can stretch it out to 13 days and be able to get better incentives by taking delivery on 01-MAY...

Could be that the production of hhrs has been halted due to American Axle strike and GM decided to ship materials from hhr plant to malibu plant to meet demands.

GM invoices the dealer when the car is built. A vehicle will show up in on-line inventory once the VIN and billing get updated. Shipping time determines when the vehicle will hit your dealer's lot.
