Competition Seat Owners and Testers
Competition Seat Owners and Testers
I would like to hear your opinion if you own an SS with a competition seat or have tested an SS with a competition seat.
I would like to qualify my statements and say that I love my new SS but this competition seat is totally ruining the experience. The seat has some kind of stiff plastic piece within the side bolsters that is both pinching my legs and jabbing me in the top of my thighs. I am in the car about 2 to 3 hours a day and my legs still hurt the next morning. I have gone as far as to purchase a standard chair cushion and I am sitting on it. It makes the situation better but the seat still is causing me major discomfort.
Please note that I am not extremely large as I am 6 foot, 183 pounds. If you were to ask me, I’d have to say that this seat is outright defective and I want it replaced. I did not notice this during the test drive as the issue does not seem to come to light untill you have been in the car awhile. Opinions and feedback please!

I haven't been sitting in it for much more than 2 hours at a time, but I don't notice anything bad about it. I think it's quite comfortable actually. I take it the competition seat is the same as the performance seat?
Ditto... I'm very happy with mine.
Seems that a few others aren't too impressed with it either though.
I wonder if there are some actual problems or if it's some kind of interaction with specific body types/sizes???
Would be ideal if you could find a fellow SS owner near you who likes their seat, and then sit in it for a bit.

There do seem to be some folks who don't get along with the Performance seat, and although I don't understand why this is, you are not alone. My suggestion would be to solicit a trade with somebody that wants to change their passenger seat over to the performance seat (well documented swap). This could save you both a lot of money. Find someone willing to do without their passenger cover and foam for a few days, and you are in. I would offer mine, but I am sitting on it right now.
did not like!!!
I am one of the testers who did not like the performance seat, I agree with you, to me it is quite annoying, takes away from enjoying the driving experience. It feels like it is constantly putting pressure underneath your thighs, it was driving me
If that was the only seat they offered, I would have not bought my SS.
Ok, I am done......hope you solve your problem,,,,,,

The problem is the lower bolstering doesn't give very much when you sink down in the seat, it doesn't widen out and spread because the supports are stiffer than the normal seat. As a matter of fact, I believe the standard seat has only foam in those bolsters, no support to keep the bolster in position, and thus you in position. I think thats the problem with the guys that don't like it. My biggest worry more than acomplaint is that the support inside will cause the seat cover to wear, as it makes the bolster stand up enough that you can drag across it when you get out of the car. That is where I notice it the most, kinda got used to the feel in the seat, plus I pressed hard on my door side bolster to make it more compliant with my legs.
I took some measurements this morning. The seat is 20” deep. The plastic support in the bolsters starts 4” from the front and ends about 11” from the front. It’s this 7” of plastic that pinches your leg. Also, your butt sinks into the foam bolster between the 11” and 20” mark of the seat but the plastic does not give like the foam so the end of the plastic at the 11” mark jabs you in the leg.
I haven’t been in my car since about 5:30 last night and I can still feel it in my legs at 7:59 this morning. If anyone else has a comp seat or would like to trade out for a comp seat (mine is all black) in the Columbus Ohio area, please let me know.
