Coolant Level

I looked at my coolant level and can't see anything but it's hard to tell because of where it is. Should I be able to tell easily? If so I am low a 7,000 miles.
Thanks
Pat

I added 1/2 gallon to my 2008 @ 20,000 miles. There have been other reports
here, of low coolant levels.

It's hard on my 2.4 to determine the correct coolant level. A month after I bought the car I used a marker to draw a line at where the coolant level was when cold and have been using that as a reference ever since;)

What a goofy setup this is. I look at it with a bright light and a mirror and cold it's about 1-1/2 " from the bottom. Can't find a fuul mark though.

That doesn't sound right. On my container I'm guessing at least 7" if not more from the bottom is my current fluid level (although I can't verify at the moment I'm at work). I couldn't distinguish the fluid level marks which is why I made my own mark.

When it's cold/engine off, when you open the rad cap on the tee (upper hose between the engine and radiator) there should be at least fluid present (meaning the raditor is full at least until you start the engine)

Does the 2.0L use Dexcool?

I would think GM would make it standard across all product lines to use Dexcool. If your coolant is reddish in color it's the extended life dexcool

Yes.

Duh, stupid me.

Just got home from work, went out to the garage and opened the hood on the HHR.

There it was, on the coolant reservior, emblazoned in white read, "Dexcool".

But I asked that question at around the time of a coffee break in a NYC highrise office building where my HHR was many, many miles away, so I have to credit ChevyMgr for setting me straight on this.:thumb:

Had the same problem with mine, you should keep a good eye on this. I had to have the bottom hose replaced on the recovery tank, it was bent at assembly and stop flow and would just evaporate dry.:(:(
