Current Used SS Price Averages

I was one of those who looked to purchase a "slightly used" SS when I was in the market for one.

I bought an '08 in March of '09 with a little over $6k mi. I researched them for about 6 months before making my purchase and have been keeping track of the pricing for used units. I found mine through AutoTrader at a dealership in NJ. In my research, I found that AutoTrader has the best filtering to find what I wanted (the other web services could not distinguish an SS from a std LS or LT resulting in hundreds of undistinguishable results).

Back in March, I noted that the average pricing for a used SS inclusive of '08/'09 with mileage fewer than 10k mi was hovering at around $18,500. I just checked today and the current pricing averages out at $19,100.

There currently are 21 units with manual trans and 35 autos available for sale nationwide. When I bought mine in March, there were close to 100 nationwide, so the current fleet of used SS units is diminishing.
This information is based upon fact by the numbers.

I believe that the reason for the used value delta between the SS' vs the other models is because the market is currently being flooded with used units being liquidated from the rental companies. The HHR was a hit with these companies, but the SS was not part of their fleet purchases.

There are currently 6,914 LS/LT units available nationwide inclusive of '06 thru '09 model years at an avg price of $13,200 (both std and auto trans included in this number).
This information is an opinion based upon inference of available std HHR units and their current pricing levels.

Three things I would try (here in LA they all work great);
EBay 21 day Buy it now with best offer option
Craigs list
Recycler

Good luck!

Of course you'll take a beating if you trade it in at the dealer. They will look to make $5-6k on you (minus overhead) for this deal. Open market sell pricing is what you should be looking at if you want to maximize your ROI, but it will involve time and effort to sell it. Trade in is easier, but it has its associated costs.

I almost had a perfect black 08 SS w/black/red interior with 11,000 miles for $17,800 from Hurd in RI.
I talked with him about one afternoon, thought about it overnight, left here at 8AM & drove over an hour to RI to check it out.
When I got there I found out it sold at auction the day before, after I spoke with the salesman.
They couldn't break the deal for me so mine is brand new for 5K more.
I love it but that 5K could have bought a lot of goodies.

Used HHR SS are $17,000-$19,500 for low mileage fully loaded models/

There are some lower but the mileage is higher and they may not always be fairly loaded.
Might shop around at the dealers since nothing is selling they may deal.

If you selling a car right now no matter what it is you are screwed pretty much. No will buy it and there really is not much that your going to get for trade no matter what model. Some here think it is just the HHR but all models are selling low right now.

The only car selling well rignt now is the 2010 Camaro.

You also would pay $1000 or more over sticker for the Camaro for then next few months and get lttle off sticker once demands dies down a little.
