Did I ever do something DUMB tonight.....

I have never in all of my years did something this DUMB, then when I did it tonight. Changing the oil on the SS this evening, of course easy as pie, right!!! well not tonight, drained the oil, changed the filter, and of course added the oil into the engine without putting the drain plug back in:red:
I was just about ready to start the engine and I look over and there is the plug looking at me on the bench:eek: look underneath and the oil was coming out as fast as it was going in, still had the drain bucket there, but it gets better, don't I end up spilling the oil on the garage floor:roll:
I couldln't believe what I just did....talk about being an a**
oh well went back to the store and bought somemore oil, everything is good now, but that was a very expensive oil change for a DIYS....
I can joke about it now, but a few hours ago:mad:

I did a similar thing on my Corvette powered S10. Changed oil and filter
and it was late, so waited till AM to finish. Next am go out to garage,
start car, sounded ok, had my hand on SuperRam intake when I had
a thought Oh#^#%#$#, I forgot to ADD OIL!!

Added oil, restarted and all was OK. 10,000 miles later and still ok.
Engine did have roller lifters but I was suprised how quiet it was without oil.

ya, at least you caught that before it was too late! Woo! that could have been a very expensive mistake lol

I did the same thing with a Nissan Pathfinder I had about fifteen years ago. My wife was not home and I had to wait all day for her to stop and pick me up some on the way home from work.

I learned from my mistake though. Never have done it again.

Anyone like to guess how long it takes for 5 qts of oil to cover the garage floor, after starting the engine without installing the new oil filter....?????

:red: :red: :red: Many, many years ago......LOL

Wow, this thread reminded me of the time I volunteered to change the oil in my dad's chevy wagon when I was a kid. This was to get me the use of it for the following night I'm sure! Anyway, the auto parts counter gave me the wrong filter and I never checked it. When I fired it up it was like Old Faithful geyser had erupted under the hood! By the time I shut it off the entire engine was dripping and it was sprayed everywhere in the garage! Man, did that suck to clean that up. At least the parts store gave me more oil and the CORRECT filter for no charge...
