I was just curious, I like the looks of the SS, but to me living in Massachusetts, that front bumper might act like a plow during the winter.
I would never wanna change an SS to look like an LT, that's silly, again just wondering is anyone had heard of SS's coming thru by accident in LT, external setup. Seen the TurboVan, pass thanx anyway. Glenn |B) |

You have to have an SS front bumper for an SS to make room for the intercooler.

My buddy here at work has a Camaro SS, without the SS badging and body panels. I know that they've done this sort of thing in the past.
Does anyone know if they have done this with the HHR SS? Thanx, Glenn |B) |

What year? A late model Camaro SS without the badges and body panels is just a Z28 with a few bolt-on suspension mods and different wheels and exhaust.

Did the Camaro have an SS model for each year?

Possibly going a little off topic, but it's an interesting chapter (and something of a low point) in the history of the SS marque. GM wanted to build the SS version of the 4th gen but for various reasons (reading between the lines - inflexibility of the production system, and maybe lack of in-house capability) contracted SLP to do so. The first ones (in 96) were complete cars that were stripped out by SLP and all the upgrades added including replacement engines, brake and suspension options, but this made them a little too expensive, so later models (98+) were built as Z28s (RPO code Z28 :D ) with scrap hoods and no rear spoiler, and the WU8 RPO was added to the build to designate it to be shipped off to SLP who added the parts of the "performance/appearance package" as seen on my window sticker.
https://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/fil...3/sticker2.jpg So the SS badge was an 'appearance' feature, and not a designator of a separate model. The Y2Y RPO code indicated the presence of further optioning at SLP, which was then detailed on the 'second sticker' found on the back of the passenger door, but Y2Y was added to all SSs in later years to give the flexibility to add options to cars while en route to SLP. These options weren't governed by regular RPO codes, so there were some odd configurations put together there, but I doubt that the deletion of the hood and spoiler, which are about half the value of the package, was ever done - plus it would mean SLP getting hold of the GM parts that weren't fitted to the car if it arrived as a WU8. Many of the informative forums about the 4th gen have died over the years, I only found a couple out of my list of bookmarks that are still active - http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63887 FBodFather there is the legendary Scott Settlemire. http://www.chirpthird.com/ubbcgi/ult.../t/000237.html http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/showthread.php?t=475354 At least the SS marque has finally made it back to being a vehicle that's distinctly different and superior to the other models in the range. I like my SS, but it's still 'just' a Z28. |
The rare Camaro is the one ES that was made.
The last year the 4th gen was made the marketing director Scott Settlmire had a car made for his 70 year old mother. He wanted something special. So he had them build the V6 car she wanted and then had it painted, stripped and put on wheels as the Special edition SS had. He then had GM make special SS emblems that said ES. ES? His mothers name is Elaine Settlmire. Though it is not a performance option this car is the odd rare specal factory build you seldom see today. She is getting a new 2010 soon and we are wondering what she will do witht he special V6 car. I have seen it ans it was the best looking V6 I ever saw made. We always thought of this as a cool cars and a neat thing to do for mom. Scotts car company car was a Z06 engineand braked SS. It was a one off. I think he had to turn it back where it was crushed. He did just get his new 2010 SS a couple weeks ago. |
