I know a lot of people who run with a race pipe and delete the cat. It is a hefty fine if you get pulled over, the cop does an on site inspection and finds you without one. That's the reason I went with a Magnaflow high flow cat on my ride. Another option people have taken is running with a cutout. Best of both worlds. Ride around sounding all stock and then open the cutout and making full race.

But doesn't a lot of the modern engines require a certain amount of back pressure to create the max performance which will actually drops if that back pressure isn't there?

There are a lot of arguements for and against this. But on a modern car, made within the last 10+ years. The exhaust system is very effieient, the cats are "high flowing" themselves. Removing them will not give you any performance gains on a perfectly good cat. That theory has been proved many times. His engine will not run correctly unless he has the computer tuned to run with out it. But then other systems will also be affected. All he is doing is putting more pollutants in the air. It also illegial and caries a very healthy fine (upwards of $10K). It's just a senseless thing to do these days.

And, IMO, after hearing the sound clip, it sounds like a bee farting into a megaphone.

not on a turbo... the turbo IS the back pressure for the engine... so you need a good flowing exhaust turbo back...

the biggest reason to do so is to get a larger diameter downpipe... not necessarily for the high flow cat itself... your right...

the cutout would be the best of both worlds... but all of this post is for the ss/turbos... not n/a's...

but where are the car people around here?! lol

what's a few little illegal modifications among car guys/gals? makes things all the more fun... and fast...

You can swap out the downpipe and upgrade to a aftermarket high flow cat.

Keep the car legal. Removing a perfectly good cat will not give you any gains on performance. I can smell a removed cat from a vehicle, I bet most cops can also. Just get behind one in traffic.

if your going for sound, i would just take off the resonator, not the cat. your hurting the cars performance taking off the cat. i mean to each thier own, and anyone can do what they wanna do with thier car. as far as emmisions and smog laws and all that, they do vary from state to state. we all try to find ways for "cheap" mods, but some of these "cheap" mods hurt the car. if that's the case, why not pick up a performance chip off of e-bay. they run about $30 bucks and give you like 20hp
