How about replacing the Chevy BowTie on the front grille with a
SS emblem :thumb:

You got it right! Just like the SS Muscle Cars of the '60s & '70s! Cool !

CGYHHRSS 03-30-2008 06:06 AM

Have an HHR SS tentatively purchased, hopefully on the road with it next weekend.

Came here in advance looking for little cosmetic mods to make it more unique.

Besides debadging at least the side doors, also thought about replacing the "HHR" and "SS" stock emblems on the back with an old school either "Turbo Charged" script I saw somewhere or a "Supersport" script (or both, but that's too much), or older "SS" emblem on the back where the HHR emblem is now, and the turbocharged on the other side. Dunno, kicking ideas around.

IMO, the current SS on the doors is overkill, the SS on the back is fine, but I like the look of the script.

Not a big fan of the HHR block letters. We just came out of the Optra (same font as that, and same badge that others are putting on the hood I see). Just looks a little too sterile, although I knows its the same font GM wide currently.

If a vendor came out with a script, or a subtle change on the "HHR" I'd look into that.

Interior dash and door Chevrolet scripts look intriguing too.

Anyways, back to the topic of the grill, what about a smaller, but similar as pictured there, "SS" emblem attached to the grille (maybe clipped onto the grille from behind), say in the lower left corner? A subtle look to it.

wrong style SS, doesn't match the ones on the car, but i sure would be interested in a matching SS for the front myself!

Offy 03-31-2008 07:26 AM

I bought a matching SS emblem on ebay, easy to find and choose the best price. There are 2 sizes. I have mine but I haven't had time yet to install a couple of studs so I can put it on the lower right side of the grill with a back plate. I'm afraid the 3M adhesive won't have enough contact area on the mesh grill to secure it.

I had an overlay made.

SS cars from the muscle car era had the SS logo front back and on the sides. Perfectly fine the way it is. I think the SS badges from a 70 Chevelle would look really cool.

Charles

I sent an email to them asking for overlays like yours for the front and rear Bowties.....They emailed me back and ask if the back is the same as the front
Can you measure and tell me if they are the same size??

KinseySS 04-26-2008 11:53 PM

I think it would look better if you left the bowtie alone and put the SS on the intercooler grill.

ivtech 04-27-2008 12:22 AM

The rear bowtie is smaller than the front by maybe 1/16" will try to measure later.

I have been thinking about painting the bowtie black and then painting red SS on the lower grille covering the intercooler.

SS size

The size SS for the hatch is closer to the right size......Measure them and see.....The SS's on the door are larger.......The old 70's SS's are way to large and out of proportation......for use on the HHR...... I'm getting rid of the bowtie emblem on my HHR/SS grill and hatch.....filling and using the SS from the hatch on the grill .........And filling only on the hatch......But that's just my idea......Everybody to their own........WW:thumb:

CGYHHRSS 05-02-2008 01:05 AM

After looking long and hard on the net (but not having an idea of sizes of the things) I went to a local shop to order the "Super Sport" script from a 1967 Nova rear panel, to replace the SS/Turobcharged badge on the back (and likely putting that in on the dash). I am debadging the "HHR", as well as the GM squares. I was thinking about ridding the door of SS's as well, but the wife wants those to stay...but I may find old style "SS"s for the doors.

Anyways, while there I stumbled across a fender "SS" emblem from a 1969 Camaro that I plan to put on my grille. Probably close to the size of the SS on the back.
The size would fit perfectly inside the grille bowtie on the SS, if you're looking for a reference.
As it has the metal posts (meant for going into a fender), it can be put in the SS grille and can use the speed nuts to fasten it from back.

Now, my issue is where to place it.

1)Dremel off the post and put on the bowtie? Probably not. It fits perfectly, but for that, may as well get a decal.
2)Right above the bow tie? Likely not.
3)Right below the bowtie? Probably not. Both of these are too busy.
4)Offset on the lower right corner (if you're facing it) of the grille? Very likely.
5)Centered, but down below on the intercooler grille? Just thought of that, and it looks kinda cool.

What do you think?

Then again, since I have a pair of these, maybe dremel them down and get some foam tape and replace the door SS's with these....but I like the idea of the SS on the grille somewhere too.

http://autos.ph.groups.yahoo.com/gro...view/9189?b=11I finished the modification to the SS emblem and mounted it in the grill a couple of weekends ago. It is the same as the door emblems. I think that it would look better on the intercooler grill but it is a lot more complicated to get it there as opposed to the upper grill that gives immediate access by simply raising the hood.

I'm not prem either. Having no luck with pic by paste. If you have a picture, you can download it to the forum's gallery and then a link will take us to it.

Hot damn, I'm a geek!!!:rof:

CGYHHRSS 05-03-2008 05:41 PM

Upon further review, I would like it on the intercooler grille.
I thought there would be a gap, even if small, between the moudling and the intercooler so I could get under the car and reach up to attach it to the back of the lower grille.

No dice.

How does that lower grille attach to the bumper/moulding? Can it be snapped in and out from the front of the car? It seems like it should, but I don't want to be busting a grille pulling to hard one on side to get it off, only to have it crack.

That's the only way as I can see access to the back of that lower grille, unless I am missing something...?

If you want to post a pic I use tinypic. Go to www.tinypic.com upload your pic and it will give you links to the pic. Use the forum or message groups link and copy and paste it into your post and it will show the pic.
