fuel line leaks

I bought my HHR SS approx. 4 yrs ago. I have about 81K on it... Was updated before I purchased with K/N intake and more free flowing exhaust.. Love the car plenty of power and plenty room for Grandkids or storage. About a yr ago experienced clutch pedal not fully returning. I would pull up with shoe... Did not happen all the time. Started to happen more frequently until it went to the floor the other day and I could not shift car. ended up the slave cylinder had to be replaced... Now works great.. HOWEVER....while on rack tech noted that gas lines were weeping and need to be replaced... I brought the car to my sons friend who is a GM dealer tech and he confirmed that they needed to be replaced and that it was not an easy job... has anyone else run into this problem? I keep my cars clean although I live in NY where they salt the roads so I wash with high pressure sprayer each time to wash salt from underneath. Now I also have 5 antique cars from 1938 to 1965 and gas lines are not deteriorated to where they are leaking. Admittedly I do not drive them in the winter, but I am sure they have seen their share of winters previously.. Has anyone else had this problem? And is GM making the gas lines out of cheaper materials these days? The rest of my HHR looks pretty clean underneath... Just wondering why the early demise of such key components already? Thanks,, Wayne

I had this problem a few years ago. Not an SS, but an LT, same fuel lines.

I bought the Fineline kit from Rock Auto ($150 or so) and replaced all the lines. They come in sections that connect together to make it easier to install. Took a Saturday to install.

The dealer tech is probably saying it's not easy to snake complete one-piece replacement lines through the undercarriage. The factory installs the lines during assembly when there is better access so its easier for them.

Whoever told you it was not an easy job is a wimp. Full OE kits are available from GM, many after market kits, you can even splice repairs in.
Replace both the fuel line and the vapor line.

I changed the title of the thread since it has nothing to do with the clutch pedal.

Very easy job, just a little tougher on jack stands then up on a hoist.
I replaced both lines front to back in 4 hours , in the driveway on jack stands.
In early March last year. Go slow, be careful, don’t be in a hurry !
the clips will pop open fairly easy

Your fuel line is probably leaking in the left rear corner right by the axle at the bottom of the bend.... A well documented problem with HHRs and Cobalts. Kits are available on Ebay for under $90 shipped that take less than an hour if you have access to a hoist. The kit BTW replaces both fuel and vapor line and splice into the original lines towards the front near the drivers foot well area.

Ebay seller was gastankman and he sells many different kits for many vehicles from full replacements to partial.
