The following info is from GSP North America, who makes the axles:

Their SS axle for manual transmissions:

Their LT axle for manual transmissions:

Their web site catalog shows all the different engines/transmissions for the HHR and the axle part numbers:

Count your axles inner and outer splines, and take measurements

I have spare axles for the LT models sitting on a shelf, so I can check those pretty quick.

However, I would have to pull my shaft off the car to check the SS.

So if your spare has 30 splines and they show the SS axle at 30 possibly it’s incorrect.

Some more info:

MOOG shows their SS front wheel hub as having 30 splines.

MOOG shows their LT front wheel hub as having 33 splines.

That matches the axle shaft information from GSV North America.

I checked my stock of new HHR parts and I found that I had a new LS/LT front hub, and also a new SS front hub.

The LS/LT hub has 33 splines and the SS hub has 30 splines (and a larger diameter).

I took pictures of both and you can see them side-by-side:

Awesome, so those axles are correct for the SS manual transmission, 27 splines

That's 27 spline at the transmission end, 30 spline at the hub end for the SS axles (manual transmission).

Yes, the manual SS transmission end has 27 splines. Maybe that’s the difference in the SS automatic transmission, the splines at the transmission end. Aren’t those transmissions 4T45 like the LS/LT
