This car has been on again, off again so much I'll believe it when it gets here....

But, don't call it "SS". SS option, yes. Will look really odd once the V6's hit the street. What would the V8's be called, an SS, SS.......

An "El Camino esque ute"? And exactly what would that be?

They call an El Camino type vehicle a Ute in Austrailia.

Just the 430+ HP model will be an SS. There is no more on or off as they are already testing the NASCAR version already do there is no turning back.

The V6 that may come later will also have a non SS name as would the wagon. The Ute would be the El Camaino with no Suprise.

This car really was never on or off for a long time now as they were just waiting for the Zeta II platform as some call it. It will be lighter and updated over the old G8 platform. It also will lose the silly fender flairs of the Holden too. The biggest delay also was the new DI Gen V V8 engine. The car was not going to come to market till it was ready. The Vette will show the engine first and then the Trucks the SS and finally the Alpha based Camaro in late 2014 as a 2015. The DI and VVT will increase MPG and Power.

GM lead RWD engineer pretty much spilled the beans on this car 2 years ago and many people over looked his comments. He was glad as he said more than he should have.

Might note GM now is working on a 18 month lead time or less on many new models. They no longer are doing the 5 year lead in like the 5th gen Camaro. There is a lot more coming and many have no clue what to expect.

Note the note 6th gen Alpha based Camaro will lose a lot of weight [around 700 pounds depending on the engine] keep a V8 and offer TT Turbo V6 and single Turbo 4 engines. The ATS Caddy on this platform is already at 3200 pounds with a Turbo 4 and 3300 with a V6.

When I posted this in 2008, the on off had already begun.

From what I've heard recently, the talk around the GM Tech Center, it is slated to be produced as published.
