Going to test Drive an HHR Tommorow Need checklist help
Well It looks like the SS bug that has bitten me is getting the better of me and I am going to test drive an SS tommorow.I am really psyched about this but also very nervous as this will be my daily driver.
It is an auto one owner Gm Certified vehicle with 50,000 miles on it. I am very knowledgable of what to look at on cars but I am not a turbo guy and I have only seen one HHR ss in my life and it was driving away from me. So I really need your guys help with a suggested checklist Gm does a 172 point checklist but I would feel more comfortable with what to look for I have done tons of body work and will pick up on that In my head I am thinking check what the cars boost goes to at WOT but what gear and how much boost should I be seeing. Listen for the typical front end noises of an HHR I am assuming I will hear something see how it rides along at 65 I may even ask if I can hookup my GTECH computer and see what the 0-60 time is if so what should I be looking at with limited traction 0-60 in 6.5 seconds etc. anything else or any suggestions would be great.:thumb: |
If it has been re-certified you will have 12000 miles or a year to find all the might be going stuff. I would just go drive it, like you stole it, think you have the SS bug now ?? Wait till you tune it and step on the gas!! These cars have a bunch of little things that can and do go wrong, if it doesn't even have the stg1 on it,.... it has been babied so far, compared to what it will do. Just go drive the thing and drop off the salesman so you can get some wheel time and various driving situations, You could threaten to leave the Wife for collateral.
Why tomorrow, I'd go today and tell them you will bring it back tomorrow, like a puppy, you want to take it home see if it fits in the drive way. |
Best advise I can give you.....
Since you are pretty excited and "hyped" for an SS...DO NOT LET EMOTION MAKE THE DECISION !! Many car buyers, seen estimates of approximately 40%, buy vehicles based on emotion. So, know what absolutely want and want would be nice. Stick to your ABSOLUTE WANTS and bargain with yourself regarding the nice to have. You're knowledgeable so go with your intuition.....even when it comes to the turbo issues. |
Thanks for the advice
I would go today but its 5 hours one way. Thought this over for the last couple months so I guess I better know what I want It will be slow in comparison to my black car below but to have AC and 30 MPG and go pretty fast when needed is nice Its a one owner custom ordered from the dealer who has it Sounds nice Thanks to you guys I gotz the ss bug What should the boost gauge go to stock |
14, did you see the one in St.Louishttps://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40106

Is there a way that the dealer/GM can run a list of repairs and warrantee work that has been done on it?
|
IIRC, full boost doesn't come in until 3rd gear, wait, that's on a stick. Maybe an auto guy can help, but full boost numbers vary with environmental conditions.

You bet.....also thought of this while off line. Jack, have the dealer run a VIS on the car as a condition of POSSIBLE sale. Recognize however, this will only show work performed on the vehicle at a GM dealer. And Obviously you know about CarFax and such.... |
saw the 2010 wrong color for me and its a stick need an auto
thanks for the info cant wait to drive it they have 2 others one is spoken for already may have to try the standard just for the heck of it |
Which color did you like, or your Wife like? You have to get the dealer to install the GM turbo upgrade, won't mess with your warranty, but it is a whole different car. Looking at the black car in your sig. you will appreciate the 55hp difference. You will be looking for real tires, soon as you feel it!!!
