OK, so I thought I was one of the lucky ones.....no car problems......until today. Past couple of days, backing out the driveway I ave noticed a sloshing sound behind the dash-board, thought maybe there is a cooling pond or swimming pool back there and thought maybe it was the heater core and its coolant supply... got in this morning....same slosh,but this time the passenger floorboard is soaked through the carpet and mat. Since I live in Florida and have had 100+ days for months now, I have yet to use the heater......could this be a blown heater core? I have no on-star notification and there is no leakage from the dashboard.... Any Ideas, because I am not looking foward to taking my SS to the shop with the horror stories I have read.............

Now, if I find out my wife left the sun-roof open while it rained, then problem solved, in the meantime I am entertaining ideas.

Since the heater core is higher than the engine if you have a loss of coolant the first place affected is the heater core. Sloshing means low coolant, coolant on the carpet means leaking heater core.

Very interesting...

My fiance's HHR has recently been making a sloshing sound that seems to be coming behind the dash-board.

So this may just be low coolant?

I guess I better check the levels this weekend...

Do we have anything to be concerned about with that sloshing noise behind the dash?

It seems to only happen on occasions right after she starts the car and drives up the hill out of my subdivision.

Seriously yes. If you are not seeing coolant on the ground it could be leaking into the engine. Coolant doesn't evaporate or disappear. When the system is low there is a leak or if you just had it serviced, they failed to fill to capacity.

Two HRRs that came in with this complaint were cracked heads.

If it were the heater core then you would be low on coolant by now and overheating. Most likely the condensate drain for the AC is stopped up and that is the source of the water. Simple fix and cheap.

I have seen this happen when the a/c condener drain plugs up. the water that drains from the a/c under the car. if the drain is pluged up the water has no place to go it fills up the heater a/c box untill it spills into the inside under the dash.
