HHR SS Cowl Induction Hood

Made this hood after my original hood was destroyed by the local wildlife (deer).

Sorry, thought I could post a picture with my thread. Guess I have to use the member gallery.

Is it all fiberglass, or a super sweet blend job ?

DAVCOXX Oct 25, 2009 02:19 PM

It is a metal scoop welded to the factory hood. I figured fiberglass on metal would give my problems later. I removed the "skin" from the factory hood under the scoop. It allows the hot air to get out. I haven't decided to actually attach it to the air box. The cold air from the fender well is probably as good as it gets.

Wow, that is sweet! Best looking scoop I've seen on an HHR yet! :thumb:

I know a lot of guys are saying that , But i disagree. Try a temporary mock up on the air box. I know for a fact that my power increased with the open air box, a free flow filter , and fresh air being directed over the box, do i have dyno #'s to back it up ? No. Do i know the limits of this car after putting 34,000 miles on it ? Yes , And the changes added power, So much so as to have the computer shut down the turbo for over boosting. It is a diferant monster with those few mods, Now if i could just get the stage 1 kit, I could utilize the mods. :red:
I stuck a camera into the hole for the inlet tube , Theres nothing there but dead space, Improvements can be made for sure.

A temp air box mod will be cheap, and may change your mind.

The hood rocks. Top notch job !!!!!!!!

I was watching some rain drops come off of the back edge of the scoop as I was driving down the road. When they came off they just hit the widshield. I don't think this body style creates high pressure at the base of the windshield like the cars in the 70's did.
Your scoop is probably more "ram air" functional, you think?
