HHR-SS mis_matched paint
they can never match paint as far as Im concerned, heres why in my opnion, it was painted with a robot at the factory, I dont belive they color sand before clear,so there is a certian amount of orange peel, that my friend cannot be matched, so when you look at it a angle or close you will see the difference. and that is not acceptable on a new vehicle.

Well you don't seem to understand what a good painter can do today. Your statment in the past was correct but no longer if you have ther right person do it.
I judged cars at car shows and as picky as you will find on my own vehicles. I notice things other would think is not there or I am just being anal about it.
The last two vehicles I had to have something painted on came out perfect. My Pick up was very near Victory Red and had never been in the Garage for the first 4 years I owned it.
I had a guy back into my truck breaking bumper denting the fender and hood. They repaired and repainted it and I can say the only place I can see it being off is the hood gap was off by about 2 MM form one side to the other.
The bottom line is the paint matched and I was happy. I never thought they would meet my standards with and older red but they did with no question.
Also my Black Fiero has been painted in parts about 7 times. The spoilers, ground FX and custom hood parts were all added and the paint on these all match enough to win the Pontiac nationals class for my car 7 time in 1st 2 seconds and 1 3rd in 11 attempts. This is against some real nice cars too.
The bottom line is a quality shop can and will do the job right and paint even faded can be matched anymore.
Im sorry but I disagree, heres my point , a show car would be easy to match paint on , because they color sand and remove all of the texture and orange peel, on new vehicles they dont and on every factory paint job there is orange peel and that is determined by the thickness of coats and the speed of wich the gun moves, that is all done roboticly at the factory and that gives repetability. If you look at a show car the paint will be flat very flat , and if you look at a factory paint job it has texture and thats what Im saying that cannot be matched. good painter or not.and I am not saying that I am somehow right and someone or everyone else is wrong , all I am saying is that is my opnion. I backed my new truck into a pole 2 weeks and still havent fixed it for that reason but when I figure out what type of custom paint I want I will get it fixed . I keep going back to traditional type flames down both sides and hood.

Well it is your loss if you do not understand how todays well equipt shops could easily solve your issue.
My truck was not a show truck and has some fade not only the texture match but do did the color.
You need to look around and learn what today can and can't be done. A robot excuse is a weak one.
On my truck they blended it back into the door and across the hood to make it match. Base coat clear coat is a very advanced system and most shops can if needed match orange peel.
If you want to disagree that is your right. I just hate to see someone think they have a problem that could be solved with little worry.
If they could match the orange peel on my Fiero factory paint they can match anything.

I will try and get a pic up of ours. Same deal as the photo above.
We did not notice it for a few days. Then is a certain light I was a little perplexed and disappointed.
I talked to the dealer about it...not sure what we are going to do if anything.

Anyway no problem, I noticed it Friday night when I picked it up, since there is a dent on the hood, left rear door, paint bubble inside right rear door and misaligned right frt door which has scared the top of the ground effects I'm looking at a good bit of repaint and since my dealer doesn't have a paint shop, they use a local one which is a very good friend of mine so after its repainted we'll see how it looks
Byron
PS it is sad they can't get it right the first time though

It is sad and web photos usally make it look better than it is.
I hope they get this worked out for you. Even with the pain of keeping it clean I am not glad I bought a black one.
I still love the red but there is no excuse to build a car this way and not catch it in this day and age.
