The mismatched paint in that picture is exactly how my car looks. While mine is not a panel it has the same problem with the front doors being a slightly darker shade of red. It was not noticable in the dealer show room and I picked the car up at night. It wasn't until about 1 month after I purchased it did I notice it.

I'm pissed about it but have yet to discuss it with the dealer. I would bet that they will not take care of this issue.

They should and if they don't contact GM or another dealer.

I have an appointment with a independent paint shop per GM to measure the thickness of the paint, will post when results are in.

I don't know how doors are, but I know a lot of the panels are painted before they even see the rest of the car.

Only reason I know this, is because I've been on tours of the plant where my grandpa used to work, and they used to stamp and paint a bunch of parts, fenders, and stuff for cars.

At Lordstown they paint the entire car and then remove the doors to assemble the car. They then replace the doors once the interior is done.

I was thought the plant last fall when they were shut down and we got to pay on the line with the cars. That was cool and up close.

Hmm..maybe they make different cars different ways. I would assume the HHR would be similar to the Cobalt, but who knows.

Yes, keep us posted. I'm in the same situation as you and I'm very curious as to what steps you are taking next and what the outcome is.

If you haven't reported it yet, do so now, the more people letting them know there's a problem the better

well she isnt red but they didn't paint the black ones very well either. look inside the door jambs near the floor, inside the hatch, and my favorite the thin paint right below the GM performance emblem under the hood. there is a reason these cars are made in Mexico standards for factories are just not what they used to be and are certainly not what they would be in the US. I feel really bad for the victory red SS's out there, could it be that the paintBOTS(I think that 3 sprayers paint the "assembly pallet") were dipping from diffrent batches? or were the painted doors a/an off-the-shelf product on the line? or better still--were they repainted at the factory for the SS's?
