high insurance costs?

i know insurance costs vary all over the place, but those that own a SS, are you finding your car reasonable to insure or it expensive?

I don't have an SS, but my insurance went up $32 for my 6 month premium over what I was paying on my '03 Chevy Impala LS. Not bad for a new vehicle vs. an older one.

My Allstate renewal is $220/6 months vs $303 for a BMW 325 with about the same current value and 185 HP. This is for $250k/$500k policy and good driver/distinguished driver discount. OnStar results in a 5 or 10% discount, so be sure to mention that. Extra airBags are not worth any extra discount, but are a good idea anyway IMHO.

I switched insurance when I bought my 06 HHR in dec.

safeco wanted $90/mo just for my HHR...that's INSANE...I switched to Allstate...one of my good friends has a HHR and is an ALLSTATE agent...he gave me a quote...it was HALF the cost of safeco.

I have 3 of my vehicles insured for the cost of the same price Safeco wanted just for my HHR.

I dropped them like a hot tater.

I dont have a SS...just wanted to give my input to non SS car. Sorry...you can have your thread back

c2vette....here, in my province, we have to buy basic auto insurance from our local govt. We can add private insurance onto the basic...but you have to buy the basic coverage first. Up till about 1977, we could buy private insurance from any insurer, but people were complaining about price gouging, unfairness, descrimination..etc. So they (local govt) got involved and its been that way ever since. There are a few variables..if you live in a high crash area or a high theft/vandalism zone. Well...Vancouver is a junkies paradise. We have a very high theft from auto/stolen autos and lots of accidents. Then again....the insurance corporation likes to brag about record windfall profits for the year and likes to invest the money in real estate transactions. Once in awhile we get a few bucks discounted for being good. Then 2 years later they like to tell us we all been bad and to pay up. Ask OLD RAY.... he is from British Columbia.

Insurance will not necessarily go up just because of the horsepower. There are so many variables such as location, HP, theft rate, etc. When I got rid of my 99 Firebird Formula with well over 300HP, I bought a 2003 Civic Si (don't laugh, it was a budget thing at the time). I thought my insurance would go down, but it went UP $300 every 6 months!! I was shocked. The agent explained it was because of the other variables. The Civic is ALWAYS on the list of most stolen cars, so that was what drove it up. It will be interesting to see what happens when I change from the Civic to the HHR SS.

The HHR SS shows as a symbol 13 with Farm Bureau and my 2001 Lincoln Continental (don't laugh, it was pimpalicous) I traded in was a symbol 14. My HHR SS is around $40 less/6 months

Interesting link to National Highway Traffic Safety Admin shows comparative loss rates. I beleive these are used to determine rates per model. The HHR fares well an 81 rating. No listing for SS version. The Cobalt Supercharged SS has a 219 rating versus 148 for standard version. Ifthat is any indication, you should expect to pay more for insurance of the SS, regardless of which state you are in. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/portal/site...1891ef9a_ws_MX
