Cool How much boost?

I met guy at work who has a 2008 SS. He says his builds 22 psi of boost. My 2009 will only build 15 psi. It builds it quickly but stops dead on 15. Can anybody tell me how much thiers build?

We have covered this several time is a couple threads and this is what it amounts too.

Where do you live? what is the weather and Do you have a Turbo upgrade kit?

The Boost is computer controled and if you live in high alt areas it will be higher than someone at sea level.

Most stock SS see 15-17 PSI max. If you have a Upgrade kit it can see at least 20-27 PSI with most seeing 22-24 PSI.

Also weather and low pressure vs high pressure systems can change the max on that day too.

One other factor is the more load the engine sees the higher the boost too.

So the long and short of it there is no exact boost level for all conditions.

What he stated is good for a SS with the Turbo upgrade and what you are seeing is ab out normal for stock.

I hope this is not confusing but in this day of Computer controls and Variable valve Timing there are not many absolutes any more. But we are seeing boost pressure on the street we would have never seen 10 years ago.

The computer will shut the car down if over 23 psi. I have HP-tuners and see 25-27 on the boost gauge.

Mine has spiked to 24 PSI if the weather is right and it did not shut down? This is with the GM tune. I have seen others with the same do 25 PSI.

The Maps sensors are 3 bar in the upgrade and will go to 30 PSI the stock maps are 2 bar and will go to 20 PSI but again conditions have to be right and not every one will see that.

Maybe some will pop in here and give location and PSI?

GM Powertrain says 20 psi, see below:
Twin-Scroll Turbocharger
The Ecotec 2.0L Turbo uses an advanced, electronically controlled turbocharger to increase power. With a turbocharger, exhaust gas leaving the cylinders spins a turbine on one end of the turbo shaft. An impeller at the opposite end of the shaft forces compressed air into the induction system, increasing the amount of oxygen available for the combustion process.

The 2.0L Turbo’s turbocharger applies a unique, twin-scroll design. Each of two scrolls on the turbine is fed by a separate exhaust passage—one from cylinders one and four, the other from cylinders two and three. The twin-scroll design virtually eliminates turbo lag at low engine speed—the time it takes for the impeller to spool up and generate boost pressure—and delivers the throttle response of a high-performance naturally aspirated engine

The turbocharger generates maximum boost of 20 psi. Because direct injection cools the intake process compared to port injection, it allows the 2.0L Turbo to safely operate at higher boost and higher compression (9.2:1) than a conventional turbo engine, increasing both output and efficiency.

Thanks for the response,
I'm new to the forum so I haven't seen the previous threads. In this case though I'm comparing apples to apples since I have nearly identical HHR's in the same location (29.2 in Hg) under identical driving conditions. One builds 22 psi the other only 15 psi. I can tell that mine (15 psi) is being limited by the computer since it looks like it would climb right past 15 but abruptly stops. I am not familar with the turbo upgrade but if it is a GM option I'm thinking his has it and mine doesn't. He says he has not added any aftermarket performance upgrades.

Only if after nn seconds (usually about 3). BTW, HPT 2.23 beta has unlocked this table so you no longer go into limp mode

Apples to apples, yes, yours is performing as designed. His sounds like it has the GM stage 1 kit... all factory/dealer stuff.
