I am impressed with the HHR SS's Gas Mileage.

I added up the fuel cost and the mileage from my trip to San Diego, CA last week and I must say. WOW

It was a 366 Mile one way trip from my house to where we stay and when I filled up, I could only put 12.23 gals in the tank. It's hot and there are many many mountains up to 4500 ft that I had to climb. I was cruising at 80 mph, 5 over the post AZ limit and 10mph over the CA limit. Not bad for this vehicle with a stage kit. 29.926 MPG it comes out to

Wife just returned from Indiana. I pushed the DIC before she left (she never touches it) to see what kind of mileage she would get traveling from So. Md. thru hilly Western Md, WV, Pa and then flat Ohio. She ended up putting just over 1500 miles (300 of those miles were around the towns where she was staying).

When she returned, the DIC read 30.1mpg. She doesn't use cruise and usually runs over the speed limit. We're pretty happy.

Not bad for crusing at 80 mph.

What is your trap speed at the track with the stage kit? I see number ranging from 100-104?

I find the mileage on the DIC reads higher than when I calculate it. When I cruise at 80, I get about 26mpg. If I keep her at 70, I get 30-31.

^ I agree, the DIC is rather optimistic in both the HHR and my Truck, when I calculate it, the milage is a bit lower, albeit still impressive.

I have been wanting to get me an HHR SS since the day they were announced... even before that, since the day rumors started going around!

I currently drive a 98 Z28 that has great performance but only gets around 13-15 mpg around town. I would love to sell my Z and get an SS but since the economy's been so down and last year's fuel price run-up made resale of my car very low, there's no way I can make it happen...

Just letting you guys know I'm so jealous of the SS owners on here... you get the best of both worlds: fuel economy and performance! Plus a cool-looking ride that doesn't look like every other econobox running around town.

Some day... some day... I'll be driving one
...but it sure ain't gonna be soon.

I would try search used car delaerships and getting one. I got a substanial discount (14k) for a 08 with 4600 miles. Try selling your Z28 on craigslist or ls1tech.com I would keep the Z28 because I love the 4th gen F-bodies. Gotta love LS1 power

well the monthly payment thing is what's a drag... can't afford that right now, unless the gas savings could somehow make a mo. payment a wash. I just don't have that big enough of a commute for that to make sense.

Now if someone wants to swap me straight across a nice HHR SS for a real nice all original Garage Queen 1998 Black Z28 M6 with T-tops, DirectFlo intake and Borla exhaust...
