Leveling Springs

I am sure this has been discussed on one of the forums, but all the ones I have found have been really old. I have an '08 HHR SS and would like just to level the back with the front. Any suggestions on what I need or which springs or kit to go with?? I do not use this car to haul anything so bottoming out on the bump stops isn't gonna be a problem. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated and please no negativity, just useful info if you have any.... thanks.

Cobalt SC/TC rear springs were popular, however are now discontinued, the aftermarket replacement springs are listed as 12.2 inches relaxed, same as a regular Cobalt.
That same Moog part is listed for the HHR , which will raise the rear end of your SS .
Powell lowering coils, only drop the rear 3/4 of an inch and only a 1/2 inch up front.
if you can find a 2005 or 6 Cobalt SS SC in a wrecking yard and the rear springs are still there , those should drop your HHR SS almost an inch, “it ain’t much!” Sheila E.
most other lowering spring kits are no longer offered or discontinued like Canuck Motorsports, Goldline , and others.
some companies still offer coil over kits.
my choice for ride comfort and adjustable height would be an air bag kit like this one

Thanks old blue, checked that site but they do not deliver to the US. At least not from what I found. That would be perfect if I could get it here in the states.

You're just a little "late to the party" if you want new springs for a HHR SS. I would suggest going to the Cobalt site and see if you can find some used ones.

FYI. I would stay away from any original Pedders. They have those dead coils that bang together when compressed. Make a heck of a clunk when going over the bumps.

I put '06 Cobalt SS/TC springs in Toughie and am pleased with the ride height.
Check with your local auto salvage yard, or online salvage yards, for availability.
All you have to do is remove the rear shock lower bolts to change out springs.
AND reinstall the bolt when finished.

That's what my Panel has been rocking for about a decade.. :twothumbs:

Yes, however they are obsolete and the aftermarket hasn’t got a true replacement for them, just a one size fits all models rear spring set at 12.2 inches tall , not the 10.4 inches tall SS/TC springs like in your panel. It must be a bummer to install a new set of springs and lower the jack to see the rear end almost 2 inches higher.
It’s also disturbing that you have to purchase all four springs in order to lower to level just the rear of the HHR.
And it’s sad that Accuair closed it’s doors and filed for bankruptcy on April 3, 2020 due to the pandemic and I’m sure other reasons.

I got the last set of Ground Force HHR lowering springs in the country... Not that they were meant for the SS. Just saying finding aftermarket performance parts for a car that's over 10 years old is going to be a challenge.

I had the last set of Canuck Motorsports lowering springs for the HHR , sold them to someone who needed them more then I did.
