Loud Trans
well i took mine in for the loud clunking noise ! my noise is a clunking noise when the clutch is out and when you push the clutch in it goes away..the first time i took it there the main mech. guy drove and said he did not like what he heard so i made the appt. got a rental and left it for them to fix, sure enough i get a call the next day and a mech. tells me that they dont have another ss to compare noises to so they are not doing nothing to it! go figure i left ford because of the bad service and i thought chevy would be better guess i was wrong....
yeah mine has the sams problem and the mech said that its the throw out bearing right away. SO they ordered me a new throw out bearing and a new clutch plate. GO back and argue with them. They have to fix that. If you keep it like that it will ruin your clutch slowly but surely

So you are getting a new clutch and bearing.....ok, when it is exactly the same as before, then what?? Mine does alot of the same things with the noises and what-not. I've driven a dozen of these things and they are all a little noisy and at times you can get a little clunk out of actuating the clutch. That's the way it is with some high performance equipment, no compromises in some areas. I have 100,000 miles to see if the real experts are right, I'm betting they are.
I'm a little suspicious of the run out and replace the throw out bearing or your car will explode camp too. I've got a clunk, I've read that in addition to the several HHR SS here, most Cobalt SS Turbos have a clunk in the trans too. As for the sounds, I've never noticed any ill effects like slip or grinding that may indicate something being broken inside as a result. It may be that most cars with our drivetrain have come out with a transmission that will destroy itself in months, but I feel giving it more time is a better idea then demanding a major repair from the dealer on a noise that hasn't proven itself to be damaging. Time will tell but I'm going to wait...
