Lowering springs?
Lowering springs?
Does the SS come with a lowered suspension already or is it just a tuned spring rate? I am asking cause I feel the lowering bug bitting me, and I see that Eibach makes a set of lowering springs.
I really like the ride quality as is, but I always end up lowering my street rides. It would be pointles to by thge set if the ride is already lowered. The Eibach site says that they are just for an HHR not an specific info on SS model.
Anyone have infor on the factory suspension, and any lowering kits for the SS?

I would look into getting coil overs because if you're going to lower the car, you really need to get shocks that match the springs. You may prematurely wear out the factory shocks if you put lowering springs on.

B&G also makes springs and coilovers for HHRs/Cobalts (they're interchangeable). My husband's Cobalt SS/SC is their test car for the springs and he asked them about "testing" coilovers for my HHR SS and they laughed and asked if he thought they were stupid cuz they're the same. I guess it was worth a shot at getting free coilovers, haha. Here's the information from their site for the coilovers if you're interested (they don't have the HHR listed yet):

Good lord, $1600.00!!!!?? for shocks/springs. There is NO way on God's Green that I would invest that money in that area. For that kinda dough, there's many other places to spend it on my HHR.........IMNSHO. ( in my not so humble opinion, lol )
I have coilovers on my 46 and 55 Fords. Only because the suspension on both was custom fab'd. Both handle real well with them.

It's funny, I see this time and time again. One of the 2 most important areas of your car---Brakes and Suspension and people don't think they are not important because they don't make you go faster. What good is speed if you can't control it?
Ksport has some coilovers that are about half that price, but still good quality. It's a better option than lowering springs.
Let me put it this way, Koni struts/shocks ~$500 + lowering springs ~$200 = ~$700-750. Kport coilovers ~$750. Not only are they about the same price, but you get many more adjustment options with coilovers.

Thanks for the tip on KW. I like what they have, but the coil over is expensive and not really needed. Lets be honest about our HHR's. Even though they are SS models, they are not true sports cars like a Z06. Their center of gravity, seating, and body stiffness are great for a street car, but it is not going to be a track star. Plus, mine is just my daily driver to have fun with, it will never see a real autocross track. Drag strip... maybe :)
Bump to my first question. What is the factory ride hieght difference between the HHR models and the SS model? I know the SS has been "tuned" , but is it a lower ride hieght than the rest of the line?
Thanks for all the info.. You all have bee great help. Heck, who knew the cobalt was the same. :)
