Question No lift shift problems

I went to the track this past Sat. to try out the fancy no lift shift on my SS. I have a 5 speed and every time I tried to shift into the next gear it would not go in with out double clutching. Needless to say this was very annoying. It is also hard to shift into 5th gear below 55 mph.

Is anyone else experiencing any shifting problems with their cars or is it just me.

I don't even know how it even works. It works for me sometimes .... others it just revs all the way up which I don't enjoy.

I've tried the no lift shift a few times but was greeted with failure. All of my tries are on a 1 to 2 shift. The problem is that it does not want to go into second gear.

Sometimes I have trouble getting in to 5th and also shifting in to first at a stop light. I usually have to shift in to 2nd and then it will go in to first.

Since it is new with just under 900 miles, I'm thinking it may need more break in time.

Before anyone pipes up saying I don't know how to shift, I don't have problems power shifting my GTO

Well, it might be something specific with your cars. But I have no idea.

I know when I have tried it, I changed to competition mode and away I went. You do have to make sure that the RPMs are above 4400 before you shift or it will be all in vain. When you press the clutch it the RPMs hold at 4200-4400 (correct me if I am wrong). So you need to shift above that.

It was quite fun and easy to do when I tried. I thought that I would have to break some sort of internal programming that said, "You should be letting off the gas right now." but it comes fairly natural.

I shifted through the gears up to forth that way and even with that I think I felt the tires spin for a split second in forth (but it was colder out which might have something to do with it).

I never have problems shifting into 5th which leads me to believe that there might be a problem there.

I am by far no expert with the no-lift shift option but just wanted to forward you all my experience. More for reference as some of you were asking if your experience was normal. I don't think it was.

Perhaps others can chime in with more insight.

The 4400 RPM's is for the launch control feature. (Starting from a stand still, hold the gas to the floor, RPM's are limited to around 4400 and then dump the clutch.)

With no lift shift the computer will limit max RPM's to 100 off redline when the clutch is depressed with the gas to the floor. (Redline being 6200? I forget at the moment)

Anyway, works great for me and you get a nice pop out the exhaust between shifts. I've only used no lift up to 4th gear as the car was all ready too fast for the highway I was on and I backed off. But damn I got there fast!

No lift shift would not be responsible for hard to get into gears. Most likely a cable adjustment is needed or a shifter assembly.

The therory is that the computer will not allow the engine to redline during full throttle shifts. It keeps the RPMs high so you dont loose boost presure, therefore there is no turbo lag. So the advantage is to give you that extra edge against a vehicle that doesn't have it.

Mine works perfect......however my brother tried it and had all sorts of complaints, alot of this has to do with the driver's tecnique I think since I rode with him and observed.

The car will shift fine under normal driving, and 5th is fine as long as I shift into it above 55 mph.

I was thinking about putting some better trans fluid in, that did wonders for my Mustang.

Or just give it a few 1,000 more miles and see if it gets better.

Yes. I forgot. Thank you. I certainly did not want to give out incorrect info.
