How do you get the Change Oil Soon display to reset on the DIC?

Clevelandhhrss 09-20-2008 07:16 PM

reset it like everything else.
hold in the lower button on the right of the steering wheel for a few seconds.

Be sure that you WANT to reset it of course :)

I beleve you have to have the key on but the engine not running.

HillsdaleHHR 09-20-2008 07:50 PM

I don't remember it by heart but it's in the owners manual :thumb:

Ok. Got the manual out. (I used the first method) Here you go:

1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine off.

2. Press the information and reset buttons on the DIC at the same time to enter the personalization menu.

3. Press the information button to scroll through the available personalization modes until the DIC display show OIL-LIFE RESET.

4. Press and hold the reset button until the DIC display shows ACKNOWLEDGED. This will tell you the system has been reset.

5. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF.

You can also reset the system as follows:

1. Turn the ignition key to ON/RUN with the engine off.

2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 5 seconds.

3. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF, then start the engine.

If the CHANGE OIL SOON message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the reset procedure.

Got it done. Directions are in the owners manual on page 5-20 (too long to type out)

This is the directions I got from On-star via email but I could not get it to work.

Thanks HillsdaleHHR. I would have checked the owners manual before but it was in the rear storage bin and I had to remove a bunch of stuff out of the back to get to it as I use my SS as a work vehicle (THAT WILL MAKE A BUNCH OF YOU CRINGE  ).

Funny thing is, OnStar's monthly diagnostics email tells you to...

The first one worked for me. The gas pedal press thing didn't work, and I tried it 3 times.

I find the pedal method the easiest and only on the equinox do I have trouble using that method. I don't "slowly" press the pedal. I mash that sucker hard 1-2-3 and on the third mash I hold it for at least 5 seconds to the floor and it resets.
