If only it were that easy. Lol. If it were it would solve the problem. He could keep the hhr and have some of the ZL-1

When i bought the 2010 , they had a ZL1 in the prep area , It was there 2nd one that they got to sell , I asked him what the damage was for it , He said what ever the sticker says , I walked down to check it out $ 59,000 Black with some kind of carbon fiber package maybe , . It was mean looking.

$ 59,000 sorry , I'll bump up another $ 20000 and grab a newish - ferarri , or lambo , Viper . IMHO.
If i had the 59,000 , I could probally wait and save 80,000 or so for the rite exotic . LOL

I posted a while back about test driving a new camaro... Certainly wasn't the ZL-1..

Wifey liked it, I didn't, loads of plastic & cloth seats felt kinda thin & cheep..

Anyhow we got on the road & mashed it & it stumbled & then picked up..
Salesman said it was cold, IDK ?

I'm more of a Harley /mini-truck/ Panel kinda guy..

Well, decided not to get THAT particular ZL1...in the end, if I'm going to spend that kind of coin (and I never have on a car before, not even close), I want it to be exactly what I'm looking for. And though I love Victory Red on my HHR, I don't as much on a ZL1...I really want Inferno Orange, manual, sunroof, and the bright wheels.

I did rent a Camaro last year when I went to Disney World, but it was pretty bare-bones. Yeah, visibility is an issue, but I got used to it.

Anyway, very very VERY happy to continue to drive my SS for a while longer...

Oh, and since a couple of peeps here asked: I'm 42 years old, and the ZL1 will not be a daily driver. My wife's old Escape will handle the tough/ugly miles. I'm thinking 10k per year on the ZL1 at the very most, probably less.

The zl1 is meant to be a collectors toy, I dont even know if 10k a year is wise. Most dd are 12-15k a year. My ss is a daily driver and at just under five years old I have 81k. Which is just over 15k a year useage. Even 10k a year on a zl1 would be a huge loss in its value. Most vette owners barley put 5k a year on those, and their value plummets. To give an idea, locally I can pick up a 2002 vette with all the whistles with under 50k for 19,000 asking. To me a zl1 would be a Sunday driver at best, but it'll never happen for me cuz coin just isn't there at this stage in my career.

Over on GMI I've been reading there is a heat soak issue on the ZL1's. So until GM figures out how to handle this, might not be a bad idea to wait until they do. Ford had a similiar issue on the GT500 a few years ago, but Ford has been working with blown motors for a while and got it worked out.

I'm not really looking to sell the ZL1 once I have it...the idea is to keep it forever and ever...for as long as possible, anyway. Although I threw 10K/year out there, I probably won't ever see that in any given year...the idea is to have the ZL1 for perfect weather days, Sunday cruises, etc. I won't really know until I have it, if it happens, but knowing how much I'll baby this...10k was probably too high an estimate.

It kind of goes against my usual way of thinking, in that I buy cars to drive them and not have them sit in garages for days at a time...my SS is very much a daily driver and I love driving it as much as possible, but even if the ZL1 thing doesn't happen until later or never happens at all, I am glad that I will have the Escape this winter. It will be nice to keep the SS away from salt, snow, sleet, etc...this is a luxury I simply couldn't afford the last three winters. I'm at about 16k or so per year with the SS...having the Escape will likely shave 3 or 4k off that total in the years to come, if I keep it.

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up! Is this happening on all or most of them?

Big block with a blower in a tight engine compartment. Probably happening to all of them. I would imagine it's only showing up under hard driving. But apparently when it's happening it's retarding timing a great deal. So a loss of power is being felt and performance number dropping as a result. Seems like they need to figure out how to get more air in the engine bay.

Toy cars can be fun, but a special Camaro is just another car to sell for the dealer. Realize that the Camaro will depreciate 20-30% as soon as you drive it off the lot. Then more so as you put miles on it. Maybe in 20 years, the car may regain some of its value as long as you keep the miles off it. But then what is the fun a a hot car, not driving it.

If you have the extra $$ to buy, then car go for it. Otherwise keep the SS.
