Remote start, grind, clunk...car doesn't start

I've experienced 3 times now where I go to remote start my 08 hhr ss (97k mi), engine starts to turn over then there's a loud grinding noise, engine shuts off then the engine light is on when I go to manually start it. First time got the code, said MAF sensor was bad, 2nd time "engine running rich at idle, without doing anything to the car, the next day the engine light went away. This time haven't gotten it checked yet but doesn't sound good. Anyone have this problem or know what it is?

I suggest get that engine light checked, it could be dying battery.

Since you didn't give the code numbers, I will guess that you should clean the MAF sensor. Both of those descriptions could be the same thing.

However, there is a good chance that the battery is going bad or one of the positive cables is loose, or a ground is loose, or the starter/solenoid is going bad.

That dying battery sounds about right.
