Results of my tune

Been waiting for Lyndom Wester to get his tune done for 08 HHR SS and GXP's. He has had the tune done for 07 for quite awhile and users report
good results.

I have 5 speed HHR SS and use my HPT program to load the tune and went for a test. All I can say is OMG- Oh %@#&, is this thing ever a torque
monster. I tried a short 2nd gear pull from low rpm and almost immediately
I had 25 psi boost and tires went up in smoke. It pulls so hard in 3rd that
I can hear the chassis straining to hook up. Computer will relearn a little and believe it will settle down at about 23 psi dropping at high rpm to 21 or so.
Boost rises WAY faster than stock.
Gonna do some HPT scans and check for knock retard etc.

Dyno runs have shown this tune is worth 60 hp and 100 ft # of torque.
I believe it- you better have wheels straight when u go wot in lower gears.

what is the process to get a tune in these cars? did you buy a hand held programmer with some preprogrammed tunes in it, and then get a custom mail order tune?

There are various ways. Hahn is a sponser on this web site and makes a
PPC tuner u buy that has a tune on it and u can go back to stock easy.
Pricey but works well. Go over to Solstice forum and search for tunes. There
are a number of tunes available but u have to send in your ecm or buy a spare and send spare in. HPT is a tool with editor program that HPT recently
developed the software to allow you to tune but U better know what u are doing. There is a forum on HPT with people to help.
Westers Garage is run by Lyndom Wester who has retuned GM ecm for years.
I chose his tune because of his experience. If I had not had HPT, I would have to sent my ecm or a spare to him to program but since I have HPT, he
emaled me my tune I loaded it inro ecm which took 35 sec. Can put stock
tune back in anytime in another 35 sec.
Do a bunch of reading on Solstice forum-ots of good discussion there that
applies to the same motor in HHR SS that the GXP has.

Does he have any plans for making one available for the Automatic based HHR SS 2008?

Also, it would be cool to find some HHR SS owners who have different tunes to put them to the test and see how they rate. Which ones perform better, which ones have the most HP gains, which ones boost fuel economy, etc.

I guess the performance and HP gains may be answered from people on the list that are starting to take their HHR's to the track. That will start to give us an idea on how they all rate.
