shifter issues
08 5 speed. having similar issues as a couple other posts and I have addressed the blue tange debris by triming the guide. However still having issues going from 2nd to 3rd, mainly. reverse can still be an effort. I have the issue narrowed down to the side to side cable, meaning in and out of gears are really smooth and the left to right is also smooth without the cable connnected. so the issue is not the shifter rod pivot. I have sprayed lube at the cable entry points on both ends with Royal Purple Maxfilm. it made some improvement but still does not move easily back and forth. Any thoughts on how to fix this or am I in need of a new cable.

if u have played with the cables and no relief , try a tmw shifter upgrade, or the clutch cylinder or slave need to be replaced.
done them all but the slave, soon. eventually u will need to have the pedal to the floor to make a shift. meantime i find the blipping the throttle makes engagement easier |
what would the slave cylinder have to do with the shifter moving right to left??
|
clutch will not fully disengage.

I don't see that being the issue. if that were the case then it would be hard to get into gear. that is the fore/aft motion of the shifter not side to side. Has anyone had to replace the left cable and if so what was the symtom that lead you there.

people, including me, have had lots of problems with shifters. Sometimes my car has good and bad days getting into gear and the last thing I can think of is the roll pin for the shift linkage at the transmission. Could be cracked. Check out this thread from cobaltss.net that details how to replace them

I will look into this. maybe mine is binding in some fashion. thanks for the lead. I will keep you posted.

I have the same issue with my 08 5 speed. Front to back is fine. Left to right is 'sticky'. In the winter any temps below 30 meant I literally had to use two hands to move the shifter left-right.
Going to have to bite the bullet and buy the shift cables. About $80 iirc. Not looking forward to the swap. Going to be a pain in the ass. |
this is EXACTLY what mine is doing. Where are you buying the cables from? and when are you doing.
|
GMparts direct or some other online gm parts supplier.
I haven't bought the part yet. It looks like a ***** to swap. I see someone else here mangled their cable. I hope we can get him to share some pics and tips on the swap. |
