SS Springs Help
Hi. I have a 2009 SS Panel. I’m gonna redo my suspension. I’m ordering the KYB struts and shocks from ZZP. I can’t get OEM springs and I’m not interested in AC Delco’s aftermarket. Can anyone recommend good springs? I want to keep the car stock height. The most I’m willing to lower it would be 1” if I have no other choice. Thanks in advance.

We get a discount from RockAuto! They have KYB struts and shocks
as for OEM springs for FE5 , front springs for a manual transmission FE5 SS are still available https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...66ba483765.png The part number depicts, for left side , but the springs should be the same for both sides. https://www.gmpartsonline.net/v-2010...ion-components https://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/c-fe5...lated-parts-34 These guys have front springs for the SS also I haven’t found any SS rear springs as they are discontinued, perhaps someone on this site has a set of rear springs in the shed! |
Do FE5 manual and auto have different springs?
Also there seems to a lot of confusion about difference and commonality w/ Cobalt FE5 vs. HHR FE5. Not just owners, parts suppliers too. I’m trying to work up the inspiration to make a spreadsheet. |
I just know the front springs for an SS automatic are now obsolete, the aftermarket has the it’ll fit kind but wrong spring rate and wrong static spring height

It looks like the springs are different. The only listing I see for FE5 is 25798126 manual transmission, required: 2
There's no listing for auto, like Oldblue said. The PDF is no help, says to order by application. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/comm...log-pdf-59733/ Rears are 15938616, I couldn't find any available, either. |
I just redid my suspension 2 weeks ago. I gave up trying to find stock springs and bought a set of Eibach sportlines. They are low, but they ride pretty well with oem FE5 struts and shocks.

Last year I bought a pair of the correct OEM rear shocks for SS online (Sachs) so they may still be available.
Do you really need new springs? Corrosion perhaps? The OEM’s don’t typically sag and are more corrosion resistant than most aftermarket items. |
