I have done similar mods in the past on track cars with noticeable reductions in underhood temps
Welcome to the forums highside, glad to see someone else from CT! These ducts wouldn't be NACA style ducts would they?

Hey Moon, very true and thanks for bringing me back down to the ozone layer... Sorry for the "Poindexter Post". Sometimes my occupation spills into my recreation time. Probably the reason I went for an HHR SS instead of an econobox to use for work. I design mission critical cooling systems of which some are the size of locomotives. Under any circumstances can they fail. None... There is always a procedure for any modification and specific calculations must be made to assess the effect on the system's hardware based upon rate of temperature change and temperature differential within different segments of a unitized assembly (in this case, think about these effects on an HHR SS' LNF cyl head and engine block).

Enough of the worry wart... Cars on the otherhand are fun and often an educated "finger to the wind" design based upon track or race experience rather than calculation produces finite results. We seen this in the 60's and 70's on the drag strip.

It's all good, because the worst thing can happen with a car is that it needs to go home on a hook on the back of a wrecker. In my case for what I deal with at work, there's aways a lawyer around to try to say what I did wrong.

Fresh air does tend to lower temps , At speed .

A motor makes the most horsepower just this side of meltdown. You spend all that money to make your motor have more HP and now you want to give it back?

An efficient CAI will in theory produce better flow and thus even MORE heat, though I've not seen any proof at all that an aftermarket one does a thing.

while running the fans are probably on along with what air flow is achievable from the front will keep the eng area comfortable..otherrwise long term problems would come about. Now heat soak, that nasty critter that shows up after shut down and sitting there with no place for all that heat to go is what you feel when you open the hood,,,also why its advisable to allow a cool down period before shutting it down...Ive blown radiator hoses AFTER shut down because of this...its why industrial equip, especially diesels require this cool down period,,,soften the heat soak. So unless your hood scoop is vented to eng compARTment instead of intake it will do nothing for area heat ( I know,, you want colder/cleaner intake air...just saying)..isnt that why the dragstrip have a cool down lane?
