They offered me $3500.

I took mine to carmax over the weekend expecting an offer round 7500-8k minimum. They offered me $3500. :hissyfit:

That's crazy
I got somewhere around 6000 for my 07 lt2
With 98000
When I traded it in
How many miles are on ss
Any reason you can think of for them offering so low.
I am guessing they did not look it up as being an ss
Still sounds awful low regardless

3500????? I'll take it.
That's crazy! You can bet that they will get a bunch more then that.

I would take it back or at least to another Carmax.
I heard they pay pretty good

andyb 08-26-2013 12:26 PM

i heard that carfax gets their trade in prices straight from NADA

I have 92K on it. Its clean other than rock chips and a couple door dings. I know the mileage is getting high, but that's why I was expecting only $7500 or so.

I didn't mention to them it has a freshly rebuilt transmission (new bearings, seals, synchros, and clutch package) after throwing a bearing or a newly rebuilt top end due to carbon coking on the valves (thanks 100K warranty). Don't think it woulda mattered. They didn't want it.

I'm looking at buying a 2nd home, so I may list it here and on Autotrader if I find what I want. It will go towards the deposit.

While waiting for the quote to come back, I was looking at other SS's on their site. Cheapest they had in the country was 11,995.

Wow, and I thought I got lowballed when they offered me $8k. Mine had <60k miles on an '08, I had all maintenance records, and the only issues were the rock chips up front. Ended up settling on $11k, the dealership listed it at $16,995 and continually lowered it until it either sold or they took it to auction, last I saw it was at $12,995.

That is crazy low. They have no idea what there talking about. You'll get more than that.

Look at Autotrader if you want to see what they're actually going for. In the search engine, I used "over 100,000 miles and "SS" for a keyword.

I found the following just now:

Used 2009 Chevrolet HHR SS Black 108,850 miles $13,0991

Used 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS Red 102,943 miles $10,995

Used 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS Red 156,000 miles Red $7,000

NADA's numbers for trading in a base equipped 2008 SS (i.e. std stereo, no sunroof, etc) with 100,000 miles at a dealer are:

$7,575 for rough

$8,725 for average

$9,675 for clean

A clean SS as described above retails for $12,275
