Factory Order - How Long?

Factory Order - How Long?
Ordered my SS Panel yesterday. Dealer told me 12 to 15 weeks. Hoping he was just "conditioning" me for a pleasant surprise rather than a dissapointment if it came late. What is everyone else experiencing/being told on delivery timeframes for their factory orders?

When I made my first inquiries in June,
I was told to expect delivery around October to November. I actually made my order on 27 June, but, the dealer has to wait for their consignment allocations to come in for the month before they can complete my order. I expect a phone call today or tomorrow telling me that my '09 SS is actually on order. They still can't even tell me what the final MSRP will be for the options that I want. I am hoping for delivery about Labor Day, but it may not be until October before I get my SS.
Was contacted by the dealer and my order was sent out but it has still not been accepted at the factory. As of, 10 July. Still no word on pricing either.

I orderd a special Chevy in 1976 and that took about two months. I ordered a special Chrysler product in 1982 and it took about two months, only to arrive with the wrong engine. I reordered an 83 version which took about four months and again came in with the wrong interior and missing most of the options I wanted. That was the last time I seriously looked at a Chrysler product and the last time I tried to special order a car. To a dealer it was just a car, a unit to sell, not anything special. I've found five new cars on the dealer lots that came close to my wants since my last special order.

I've never ordered a vehicle before. I've been able to find the vehicle that I want. When I bought my Mustang ... I had Galpin Ford nearby which I swear had every possible combination on their lot. LOL.
This time with the HHR SS it was more of a challenge because 5spds are rare in my neck of the woods. But calling a few dealers and using their inventory search system found the Imperial Blue Metallic I was looking for.
You may be able to find the color and options you want if you call around. A lot of dealers also will try to do a dealer trade if they can find a car on a lot within a couple of hundred miles. If the dealer trade doesn't go through, just ask them for the name of the dealership. That's actually how I got my SS. Dealer trade didn't go through, so he gave me the name of the dealer.
It was a bit of a drive (75 miles each way) but worth it! I would die of anticipation waiting 3 months! The one drawback to this system is you need someone else willing to make the journey with you if you are not trading in the vehicle you are driving!

When I ordered my GP they told me about 2 months, but it took closer to 3 months. That was not fun sitting there waiting all that time. But on the positive side it allowed me more time save for a down payment, and I had already negotiated the trade in value even though I got to drive it an extra month for essentially free.

Sadly it looks like (from the above) 12 to 15 weeks is accurate. Unfortunately I sold my hot-rod pick-up privately last week so the wait is even more stressfull. Good news is I got a better deal this way and can 'borrow' my wifes car when I need to.
