Took a little trip.. My thoughts

So drove up to Lake George, NY on Sunday.
I ended up having to stay on cruise control because I was cruising at 80, without even realizing it.

I filled up on 93 ( it was 3.66 a gallon)
drove 280 miles round trip
average speed DIC 68mph
average MPG 32.5 mpg

I am impressed :smile:

I have noted on the web and even yesterday another SS owner and most are getting 26-27 city and 31-32 highway.

Mine also showed these number coming from Dayton.

Not me, best I've done so far is 23.67. I've got a little over 3,000 on the clock so far.

Yeah i can't seem to get above 24 no matter how hard i try. I've only got 1100 miles. Average speed is 38 MPH. I rarely get on the gas.

That's great for a 68mph average.

55mph =37mpg
60mph=35mpg
65mph=32.5mpg
70mph=29.5mpg
75mph=25mpg
80..well i never drive that fast long enough to know.

This is what I believe youll see if you use cruise. I dont use cruise so my number will be 2-3mpg higher across the range.

Drag is everything. Speed=fuel consumption.

??? Not that driving the SS like you stole it is a bad thing, but DO YOU? Reset everything and check you highway cruise MPG's vs the ones I posted above. If that is what you see, the culprit is your foot.

You guys are simply having more fun in your SS than me. I have a 37 mph average over the last 400 miles and can't seem to keep it above 35mpg.

"Getting-on-the-gas" should be defined by your vacuum gauge going above zero. On the highway i don't let it pass above negative ten (-10) if I can help it. I 1-3-5 shift. Or 2-4/5 shift on a downhill.

Those are some good numbers.....I am averaging about 15mi/gallon......not bad for a 1/4 mile track.....lol

jerSSey HHR 08-11-2008 08:49 PM

I've gotten 26+ MPG on the first two tanks, doing a lot of local driving and then getting on it quite a few times recently.

I'm almost always in vacuum. Even when im first taking off it barely goes into boost. Highway i keeep it between negative 10 & negative 20.

soccerjunky 08-11-2008 09:22 PM

i've never gotten over 24mpg either ,, but it does get better mpg than any of my other cars so i aint complaining

I just finished a 2500 mile road trip through washington, oregon, california, and nevada, with 40% fast freeway, 30% twisty highway, 15% mountains, and 15% city. It was hot much of the time, A/C was on, and there were two people in the SS plus a bunch of luggage.

Averaged 29 mpg over the whole trip, average speed was 50 mph. Top speed was about 110 mph out in the Nevada desert, but not for long :lol:

jerSSey HHR 08-12-2008 07:39 AM

I filled up this morning, just before hopping on the interstate to come to work. After 22 miles of 70-75 MPH driving, plus about 4 miles of 40-60 mph driving on a local highway, my DIC says I averaged 33 MPG.

And the car isn't even close to being broken in yet. I can't wait to get a few thousand on the car and get my first oil change.

And I wasn't even hypermiling.

kodos78 08-12-2008 09:47 AM

I baby it, and I only get 24mpg average on the DIC. But I have lots of stop and go traffic. I have the 5 speed. Like someone else mentioned, it does get better mpg than my other cars, lol.

esmarkey 08-12-2008 10:22 AM

Yesterday I posted that my overall average over 10,000 mile is almost 30MPG, that's about 50% hwy/ 50% city.
2 things. I always run premium 93 octane, and most of the time pure gas with no ethonal (ethonal reduces milage). Also, although I do "get on it" once in a while, I usually drive conservitivly. My feeling is the gas peddle isn't what really hurts milage (to some degree), but it is the brake peddle! If you pay attention to whats way up ahead of you and coast when you know you will have to stop, you won't waste as much energy by braking.
Just my $.02 worth.

turbotech 08-12-2008 12:01 PM

:steering: My daily driving is mostly hwy. and get average of 25.0MPG. I took a trip two weeks ago and average for 300 miles at 70-75mph was 32. Very happy.

jerSSey HHR 08-12-2008 03:48 PM

MPG will certainly suffer when the cold weather returns. Although with a turbo, maybe the boost adjust accordingly and not use more fuel due to the cold intake?

Who needs brakes? They only slow you down :D

z28nate 08-12-2008 04:47 PM

i just broke 5000 kms today!
at about 4000 i filled it right up and drove it to just shy of empty.(like maybe around the block once)

i got 560 kms off the tank and i wasn't driving like my dad.
your average mix of city hwy.
