This is the hitch and place I bought it from. Was very easy to install. Rated for 2000 pounds. I use it to tow my hard bottom dinghy to the marina in the spring and back home in the fall. With trailer about 300 pounds....

The only other picture I can find is one where I'm lying on the ground looking up at the hitch and it really distorts how much the fascia is pushed up. I'll try taking a better shot tomorrow.

Just found another picture from a previous posting of mine here after I did the hitch install. I still have to take a picture tomorrow of the hitch in the receiver.

A nice side benefit is the receiver pressing up on the fascia makes it flex less.

thanks for posting that-I need one for mine too, also for a bike rack. I'm a bit uncomfortable with leaving it like that. It just seems that over time you could have problems. It looks like you could notch that out without the notch even being visible unless you were looking at it from below. What do you think?

IMHO the fascia is so damn flimsy to start with that I would NOT notch it out. The pressing up of the hitch assembly is truly making the thing more stable. I have just under 10K on the car and the fascia shows no signs of scuffing.

Personally, I plan on leaving it alone.

I would make a shim or spacer to move the hitch lower.
unless it it is side mounted then i would drill holes to move it down.

The hitch assembly goes over the muffler. Shimming the hitch down will also force the exhaust down. Not sure that would be a good thing.

Thanks for all the input. I'm wondering about the other hitches. I've checked at two places in my area and both are trying to sell me the Draw-Tite hitch. I wish I knew of a way to tell if any of them clear the bottom of the fascia. I know Draw-Tite, Reese, Hidden-Hitch and Curt all make hitches for the HHR. It looks like they use the same hitch for the regular HHR and the SS. You would think they would make one lowered 3/4 of an inch or whatever it takes to clear rather than make you trim the fascia or have it deformed.
