Turning issue '09 SS Turbo

I was pulling car out of garage the other day and as soon as I made the first turn the steering wheel would not recover I had to manually steer to straight. No difficulty steering, no codes, steers otherwise great, never did this before. Any clues? any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you turboss2009

Sounds like somebody should inspect the steering gear. Something is broken/worn out/etc.

Guess I'm misunderstanding the description of the issue. On mine, if you're stationary or barely moving, you turn the wheel and it pretty much stays in that position until you turn the steering wheel back.
The wheels have to be rolling to allow the steering to self "center" up.
Now if you're saying it got stiff/stuck and you had to turn the steering back, then like Donbrew stated check for worn parts.

FYI . What's the mileage on this SS and any steering component repairs been done ?

Yes while moving say making a right hand while moving, turn normally and steering wheel would kind of correct to straight as most with little assistance. Now if you do not steer out of the right(or left) manually it will continue. Car has 102K pampered miles and has been a PIA since i owned it, good thing i can work on cars..lol I just don't want to trouble shoot with the gazillian sensors etc and motors. Thought this might be a common thing. Like i said otherwise car drives great no noise, shackes, rattles, whining??? Thanks for the responses

You want tons of sensors get a Ford. And techs with even less knowledge about them than GM

Has anyone w/HHR SS had an intermediate shaft failure on their SS. Mine at slow rolling turn stopped going back to center just trying to weed it down to a part. No noise, codes, nothing. just all of a sudden. Has approx. 110K easy miles. I understand removed from inside the car?? Thanks for any help or info

This could be a steering rack issue or the intermediate steering shaft. Does the joint and yoke appear rusty under the brake booster , out in front of the firewall?

"could be" lots of things
A few:
tires
tie rods
ball joints
rack
intermediate shaft
EPS motor
EPS module

Starting point would be get up in the air for a visual/mechanical inspection.
