Weird thing happened with my SS
Well, cleaning the MAF sensor and air cleaner helped a lot but it didn't quite solve all of the problems. The car runs a lot better than it was. When you're driving it runs really smoothly with no misses, stutters or hesitations. I also don't smell unburned gas in the exhaust right after starting the engine. It still has a lumpy idle though so I need to figure out what's causing that.
I only got it out for a short run today after reinstalling the air cleaner so I will check the codes and report back after I've taken it out for a longer trip.
Question: How do you get at the O2 sensor ahead of the cat? Does that have to be done from underneath the car?

Accessing the upstream sensor requires working behind the engine/turbo area.
What type of sensor wrench did you get?
make sure you soak the o2 sensor with penetrating oil and start the new sensor by hand to ensure the threads are not crossed

Aren't the timing chains on those engines usually good for 100K miles? My car only has 70K miles on it and the oil changes have always been done on schedule (every 5000 Km/3000 miles). Do you really think there's a good chance the timing chain is stretched? There are no noises coming from that area.
Usually the deep socket style stretches and slips off. In some cases there isn’t enough room to get the socket and ratchet into position.
it might not be a stretched timing chain but could be a broken upper guide bolt or the front guide itself. Better to check and be sure the ignore and have a damaged engine
