What tires will fit SS?

Has original 225 45 18" on it. What else will fit with no hassle?

235 45 18? 225 50 18? 235 50 18"

What else?

Thanks,

Jim

I would really like to go with a 245 width tire but I am getting such conflicting information since all the 245 width tires I have looked at say they need a 8 width rim and the stock SS rims are only 7.5 width.

I have been looking at a decent All Season High Performance tire and the Nitto NT850's caught my attention but I am unsure if the 245 40R 18 size will fit the rim. I am told the 245 45R 18 version would be too tall.

Please help

Let's see if this chart helps.
General rule of thumb is, a stock SS rim with stock strut assemblys can carry a tire up to 26.2" tall(diameter)before hitting the lower strut perch. Now will certain tires sizes fit the 7.5" rim? I just don't have a specific answer on that.
This chart should at least clear up some of those diameter(how tall) questions that pop up on this site over and over again.
***And remember. As stated before, there may be slight differences between manufacturers.***

OK I get the height thing now.. In your professional opinion if I were to go with the Nitto NT850 tire in the 245/40R18 size would the tire fit on the stock 7.5" rim?

I'm no tire professional. I just put up this chart to keep folks from asking the same questions all the time.
You should ask SS fan about those tires fitting the stock rim. That guy has tried out more tires than......well, anybody that I know of.

yes they will be 3cm shorter than the 225x45's and lots of folks have run the 245's on the 7.5" wheels. in fact here is a set on mine to peek at.

However I had a 5/16" spacer on there because I have the extendo studs, I never checked the rear of the tire to the strut.

I cannot count the hours I spent trying to find the right tire and tire size. Really wanted to go with 235/45 18 but the tries would be too close to the strut for my liking. Ended up getting stock size again.
