Chevy recommends premium and thats what I use. They also recommend a certain type of oil as well, I don't try to cheap out on that either.

From day one... the dealer put in 87 octane.......... and there has been no problems what so ever.......i did however try a couple of tanks of the higher octane..... and didnt really see any difference in performance nor mileage. My hhr is 2.4..... It has really GREAT pep, and quick.... so I am very happy with the performance using the 87
now if i had a SS this might be a different story and probablly more in likely use the higher octane.....

Premium all the way, I don't know how you guys are not seeing any performance increase/decrease or milage form one to the other, I have even run 94 in mine to try it out. The power went up that much more but the milage went down...... maye it was the cold temp.

It was a much bigger deal to folks when gas was over 4 bucks a gal. Here in So Cal Premium topped $4.75 a gal. Now it does not matter much hovering around $1.95 currently.

Heck I filled up yesterday and it was $28 running the 92. Nice. I wonder how all the Prius owners feel about now? We bought our SS to hedge off our full size SUV's but we were ready for a smaller car anyway so even though we don't see much in savings we are digging the car.

There seem so be some confusion here, as there are quite a few non-SS owners posting that they experienced no difference with premium. This is perfectly normal. In fact, if you're really fussy, you'll notice a very slight decrease in power and economy on a motor tuned for 87. Probably not enough to measure without an engine dyno. Octane only refers to a fuels resistance to detonation. Although some marketers add special detergent packages only to their most expensive grade, it's not related to the octane rating.

The question was asked in the SS forum so I assumed we are talking about the 2.0 TC engine. My comments apply to the 2.0 LNF motor only.

Honestly, I have NO idea. I was down at Tune Time Performance and seen it there. Matt and I were talking about it and he informed me of exactly how bad it was to put the regular fuel in the SS's. Had to remove as much of it as possible then put some 93 in there. Night and Day difference though..

1. It does not matter now that gas is back down in price...lol

2. You can run regular meaning 87 octane in an SS for 100,000 miles and GM will cover the warranty.

3. I got 36 miles per gallon OVERALL, on my way to a 600 mile SINGLE TANK OF 87 OCTANE GAS in my shiny black SS 2 liter turbo.

4. Who in the world would put anything less than the highest availible octane in a car that they drive like a corvette being chased by cops on uppers?????

5. My mileage was not significantly up or down enough to notice the difference in MPG going from 87 to 94. i can get 37+ mpg on the higway with 87 and 32+ in the city with 87.

6. I use 94 because it is so ridiculously cheap....and after the stage 1 goes on, i wont have any other choice :)

Bottom line is if you have an unmodified SS 2 liter turbo, and you run 87 nothing bad will happen unless GM/suppliers didn't do their jobs at the factory. If they didn't do their jobs ...it's on them..not you! If you care about HP and TORQUE and DRAGSLIPS and STREETRACING and BOOST put the highest octane you can get at you local pump, quit being cheap and enjoy the fantastic ride.
