Question Widest rim and tire combo for SS

This may have been asked before but can someone tell me what is the widest rim and tire combo we can go with ?

I am going to start moding my SS and want to start with the wheels since no one has any go fast mods yet .

I guess nobody has the balls to get rid of the ugly GM rims that are way to skinny with this bicycle tire. I guess I will brake the ice on this.
My buddy has a rim and tire shop and we will be trying out a few sets to see what fits best. We are going to try a Nitto NT555 245/40ZR/18 first on a 8.5" rim. Will see...

one,there are "go fast" parts.

two,for the money you are about to spend to make the car worse, you can have the "go fast" parts.

three, you probably won't find anything that wide. you need to get the offset right. i think the rims are 18x8 on the car already.

four,i've gotten a crap load of compliments about my rims,so have many others. to each his own.

imo, changing rims will add more weight,so when you want to go fast, you will lose some of the benefits of the stock rims, which are forged rims.

Love 'em

I Really like my stock rims...haven't seen any aftermarket rims I like more. the grip and handling for the tires is spot on as tested on the backroads near Branson this weekend.

Love what I got on my SS

Some people just have to have their pimp-mobil wheels........To them the wheels are everything.......who cares about the car.....Question......Why piddle around....open up the wheel wells and put a set of 20's X 10's on it. Hey really go for it, say a set of 24's....then you really would have a one of akind........Hey everyone to their own likes.... and I like mine the way it is.......It was one of the things that attracted me to the HHR/SS ....... WW

The stock wheels are just enough and not too much. Perfect for the SS. Gotta love the 18s!

ugly caps

Ive changed the rims and tires on almost every car I have owned, but for some reason I just happen to like the SS rims????However, now lets talk about those ugly center caps

the only whels i've found that i would trade my stockers for are the OZ Racing 35th Anniversary wheels. they're 18x8, forged, black (mostly), and a multi-spoke design (i really like the look of a multi-spoke on these cars). only reason i don't have them yet, is they are $365 a piece, and i'd have to step up on the tire size if i was going to do that (probably 245/40R18 ike the OP is going to try).

in the meantime, i want to powdercoat my stockers black.
