Will the 2.0L start in extreme cold weather?
I live in Manitoba, Canada and we get some extremely cold weather in January and half of February. The temperature can drop as low as -35 c with a wind chill. Seeing as there is no block heater available for the 2.0L, due to the turbo charger location. Has anyone with an SS been through this type of weather before? Does the HHR start after being parked overnight? I know I could put in an oil pan heater, but would rather not if I don't need to.
If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated. I have not been through a winter with my SS yet. I should also mention I do not have a garage. :frown: |
I can see no reason why it wouldn't start, the ugly days of hard starts in cold weather are pretty much memories now. Don't let the wind chill factor throw you, wind chill is just an approximation of how the human body perceives(and reacts to)the ambient temperature with the addition of accelerated heat loss due to wind.
Vehicles and other machinery aren't affected by wind chill, if its -20C and blowing at 30 kph, as far as your HHR would be concerned, its only -20C. You already know the extreme cold weather drill with a vehicle, warm it up for a minute or two and then drive it gently until you're up to operating temperature. I can't see an SS requiring anything more than what already know about driving in cold weather. |
Mine hasn't had a problem yet at -20F and below which is about -29C and below. Like DE said, I do give it good couple of minute to warm up and she's good to go.

I live in Quebec, no issues here. I do use the remote start and let it warm up a bit though before heading off.

I would have to say the same. I had my HHR in Wisconsin for three winters in below -20 with wind chill and I had no issues. She started up each and every time without hesitation. I also have the remote start and used it faithfully.

Thank you guys. I kind of figured it wouldn't be a problem, but you know, I had to ask, just to be safe.

Having the battery inside the car is a great advantage of our vehicles.
